Horimiya review

This is my first review so I won't be doing anything too fancy with it, but I figured it was worth letting my feelings be known in case anyone else is considering giving this a read.

As a romantic comedy, Horimiya excels. The main romance is extremely cute to watch unfold(Though occasionally does suffer from moments that make me cringe from embarrassment), and the few side romances are a nice distraction, even if a few are unnecessary/forced. Most of the jokes tend to land rather well, but there are a few longer running jokes that seem a bit forced and drawn out.

What Horimiya doesn't excel at, however, is following through on it's premise. The idea of hiding a secret life is something that was pretty prominent in the beginning, but at the current chapter number(91) it is almost entirely irrelevant. I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing, since I tend to enjoy the more recent chapters more than the earlier ones, but it is something to keep in mind.

Horimiya isn't groundbreaking in any way. It's characters are all pretty by the books, it's romance plays it safe, and there's no huge overarching plotlines going on outside of a few crushes. However, it is an extremely enjoyable read that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a slice of life romance.
