Resumen
Although admired at school for her amiability and academic prowess, high school student Kyouko Hori has been hiding another side of her. With her parents often away from home due to work, Hori has to look after her younger brother and do the housework, leaving no chance to socialize away from school.
Meanwhile, Izumi Miyamura is seen as a brooding, glasses-wearing otaku. However, in reality, he is a gentle person inept at studying. Furthermore, he has nine piercings hidden behind his long hair and a tattoo along his back and left shoulder.
By sheer chance, Hori and Miyamura cross paths outside of school—neither looking as the other expects. These seemingly polar opposites become friends, sharing with each other a side they have never shown to anyone else.

Horimiya review
I'm writing my first ever review just to let out my frustration with this manga. It started decent, and me, being a loving slice of life manga reader was happy about it. The story was simple: two teenagers -classmates- who don't speak to each other found themselves outside of school only to discover that both of them are pretty different of what they seem to be in school. slowly, they start to know each other and calmly fall in love. that's it.
how can you ruin that? well, it was possible! the first third of the manga it's great, just a simple story with light humor and good art but it's in the second third when the story found itself in trouble to keep the humor up and started to put a lot of unfunny jokes and on top of that a lot of domestic violence jokes. Hori, the girl, choose violence every time she gets mad (which is a lot of times) and things don't go the way they planned which ends up in having SEVERAL occasions when Miyamura, the boy, arrives to school wounded and everyone joking about how Hori is a demon. By the last third the story just gets unbearable, there's no way you can call that relationship "love" when it's based on Miyamura tip-toeing aroung Hori to not make her mad and Hori having trouble with the lack of character Miyamura has. The boy honestly doesn't even seem to have opinions, he just adapts to whatever Hori wants. The "growth" of the characters doesn't have any sense, we had Hori not making a single comment on Miyamura's piercings for the whole manga and Miyamura saying that it was one of the reasons he likes Hori it's because she doesn't judge people to have her to be 100 episodes in and have her get mad and resort to violence when Miyamura decide to start using his piercings again (that he stopped wearing because of school policies). I don't really know what else to say as i think my examples get my point across. This series lost his argument and now it's an interchangeable school love story you can find anywhere. |
Horimiya review
This is my first review over something I have read and I'm writing it because I am simply disappointed in this manga. I read it as chapters were coming out a while back then I dropped it, but its been a bit since then so I picked it back up again. Once again... I am debating on dropping it. I feel like the fundamentals characteristics of the characters change. At the beginning they had this whole secret thing that fueled them, but then Hori switches and just allows some girl that she just met over to her house. A basic no-no that wouldn't happen at
the beginning of the manga. Also the story between the main characters I think just begins to fall out.
And despite my disappointment, I can't bring myself to rate this badly because I enjoyed this for the most part until I felt like I was reading a different story than I started. The story is a cute story and all the characters are like-able but my main issue is with the way they structured this manga. My major tip for anyone looking into this is expect changes don't get too attached to how things are at the beginning. Any ways seeing all these 10 and 9 ratings really frustrated me and after taking the time to re read it and everything I am even more frustrated in this manga it makes me feel like rating it around a 4, but that would not be an accurate rating of the manga. Anyways, read if you wish. |
Horimiya review
I give an 8 in all aspects, the art is simple and cute, the characters are MORE than decent, the story is simple and beautiful, however, the ENJOYMENT of the series could be more, at times it can be slow and boring, BUT When he strives to move forward, he really succeeds and brings a lot of beautiful romance to the table.
horimiya is a manga with a very simple story, miyamura and hori are classmates who did not use to interact much, but for life reasons, now they are friends, great friends. so much so that their classmates think they are dating and have a romantic relationship. seriously speaking, is horimiya a good manga? of course yes !, obviously it depends on who is reading it. to some, it will seem very slow and boring, and others will know how to wait for those key moments to arrive, where romance advances a lot. the most what i like is the one that the rest of the characters matter for the protagonists, for their actions, development, etc. although the central focus is always on hori and miyamura.... Now, I think the BEST thing that I can highlight from the work is the character of Miyamura Izumi, it is the most SMALL and BEAUTIFUL thing that I saw in my life, as soon as this character appears I find myself obliged to praise him and wish that soul the best so beautiful. I REALLY NEED a miyamura in my life :( In conclusion, give horimiya a try, no matter how repetitive it seems or how many similar manga you can find to this one, it is still a VERY GOOD JOB that deserves to be read. |
Horimiya review
This manga is very sweet with romance and it doesn't have that much of typical shoujo cliches.
The characters are well developed and the plot is easy to follow, really enjoyable, plus it also emphatizes how the couple feelings blossom in the day by day routine as an amazing slice of life. Art is also amazing and, c'mon, it is impossible to not like Miyamura! He's so sincere and gentle, and shines even brighter when he feels he found his place to belong among his friends and Hori. However, at some point, the romance loses the focus and the history becomes something like a filler. It is still enjoyable, but not that good. If you would like to read some well developed romance, the first chapters are really charming and it's worth a try. |
Horimiya review
Horimiya is an extremely cute, fun-to-read, solid shoujo with a great art style. I managed to read for a long while, usually in a I-don't-want-to-put-this-down style marathon, but was ultimately stopped by some problems that had my momentum screeching to a halt.
1) The author obviously doesn't know much about piercings...I think if you don't have many piercings yourself this is easy to ignore, but as someone with snakebites it's really hard to hold onto the suspension of disbelief when this kid takes out all 10-dozen of his piercings at his school and no one ever notices the holes. (slight spoiler warning) 2) When they got into Miyamura's backstory with the self-piercing...first off, it was just a shock to see blatant self-harm (and that's what it is, he's explicitly trying to hurt himself, but I don't think the narrative wants to frame it that way) in my cute shoujo. I love dark stories, but there's a time and place and I felt like it betrayed the expectations the genre, and thus the reader. Secondly, again as someone with piercing knowledge, I couldn't stop thinking about how this story would unintentionally model piercing with a safety pin to lots of people...that's so dangerous. 3) Later in the story (well into the established relationship) these kids just start practicing amateur BDSM?? During school??? I had to stop there. Obviously kids are allowed to experiment in their relationships, but it just felt....irresponsible. I couldn't read it anymore. Maybe in a different story it would be fine, but in my light hearted shoujo? No thank you. |
Horimiya review
ok.. so.. even though this manga aint finished im up to chapter 66. and this shoujo manga is quite different from other ones because the main couple actually got together sooner than expected.
story: i gave this a 9 because it didnt have a lot of plot/drama but its somewhat great in its own way.. the plot is about 2 people and how they're different from inside and outside school.. hori-san seems like your normal teenage hs girl but does housework and takes care of her little brother at home... while miyamura-kun is kind of a loner/nerd at school and uh apparently he has lots of piercings and even tattoos. this is the type of manga that i would wait for to read haha.. art: i really like the art.. it's not the best but its good. character: :) one of my favorite character is hori's dad enjoyment: i gave this a 10 because it never bored me even though the plot seems kind of dull and plain. overall: 10 :D horimiya is one of my favorite shoujo mangas |
Horimiya review
Horimiya is a great manga. It isn't a master piece and it's not meant to be one. Likeable characters, great art and a story that will sometimes make you laugh and sometimes make you cry.
Story (7) I think that the manga is more about character development and interaction, but it's still a good story that can be a bit cliché sometimes. It doesn't have exaggerated and unnecessary drama. Art (8) It's simple and nice with good character designs. Characters (9) They're likable and all of them get their deserved character development. Kyoko is awesome, she'll make you laugh a lot, she is a strong woman (different from most female main characters in romance) and she can be cute a lot of times. Izumi is not your typical shy character; he's a great, strong, funny, and well developed character and his piercings and tattoos help a lot with his uniqueness. All the secondary characters are great too, specially Kyoko's family. Overall (8) Basically, Horimiya is a great manga and if you like romance, you should give it a try. |
Horimiya review
Overall, Horimiya very quickly and very easily made its way into my top 5 favorite romance manga's/anime's; and that's saying something, because I've been on somewhat of a romance-binge for the past two years.
I'm VERY particular about my romance (many aspects of reading or watching romance annoy me to no end, so I end up dropping a lot of what I start), so I hope you take that into consideration when I say that this manga has an arsenal of badassery going for it. I will say, before I continue, that this manga is relatively simple. It has some complexity in certain areas, but not much. It's very straightforward. This generally bugs me about romance manga, but the mangaka and artust did such an excellent job of tying it all together. Story: 8.5/10 The ONLY reason I didn't give it a 9 is because it's an extended version of Slice of Life. And believe me, there is nothing wrong with that. I enjoy SOL. But this certainly isn't a day-to-day, or even week-to-week breakdown of what's happening in the lives of these 7+ very interesting and complex characters. The story line is super good, and a strong point, but not THE strongest point. They did an excellent job of adding enjoyment to something so simple. Art: 10/10 Hooo-ly shi*. Such precision, so many gorgeous angles... I loved how seamlessly the art during comedic moments flowed into the serious ones. Character: 9/10 Every character, from the anti-hero (esque) to the main leads to the support, were so lovable. Again, very straightforward but great. READ IT!! |
Horimiya review
I'm writting this because i started reading Horimiya and dropped it at chapter... 11 i think. This never happened to me before, but i also never read something so stupid to happen in a manga since Fairy Tail.
I'm not gonna spoil what but you can read said chapter and see what was it. The manga was fun, i laugh a lot when Miyamura said he was on his period (!) but the series itself had no direction and nothing happened. And then this shit, so forced, so useless, so put there just for drama but taking the story nowhere. This series looks good, the drawing is cute and its the tipical fangirls bait, but, just, i cant read this anymore. Still, give it a chance if you want. Im just too biased for the moment, maybe it gets better. Please be welcome to correct me so. |
