Resumen
Nanami Momozono is a high schooler who has a lot on her plate. Her father had evaded his enormous gambling debts by escaping town, which resulted in his daughter being evicted by the debt collectors. As Nanami muses about her future, she runs into a man hanging onto a tree to escape a dog. She rescues him and tells him about her current situation, prompting the man to offer her his home. He believes that Nanami is more suited than him to be the "Master" of the house, and thus she takes him up on his offer.
Upon arrival, however, Nanami discovers that said house is actually a dilapidated shrine. She is about to double back when a fox familiar and two shrine spirits stop her, mistaking her for their former master Mikage, the land god of the shrine. Upon realization, Tomoe—the fox familiar—leaves the shrine, refusing to serve Nanami. After a series of events leaves Nanami in grave danger, she summons Tomoe and seals a contract with him to earn his subservience. Now a human land god, Nanami must face new daunting tasks, menacing adversaries, and her handsome and hot-headed familiar.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
This story touched my heart in so many ways!
I've always loved the anime for years, but I only got to read the manga recently. The anime already stole my heart, but the manga just gave me so much more insight on the plot and the characters. The whole manga was so well rounded, there was not an arc I did not enjoy. The manga made me laugh and cry so much! I was able to understand each character so much more and fell in love with all of them as well. When they smiled, I smiled as well, and when they cried, I cried with them. The story was so cleverly written. Everything made sense in the end, all the pieces fit the puzzle. I want to personally thank Julietta Suzuki for bringing this story to life! I will cherish it in my heart forever. *ps, the manga made me fall in love with Mizuki so hard I just want to hug him all day :( i hate when he's sad he doesnt deserve it!!! |
Kamisama Hajimemashita review
OK first and foremost let me start off by saying I have been reading this manga since 2015 and from that time I’ve been waiting for it to end. So recently I just found out that they actually finished translating the Manga after it was finished for nearly 2 years now. So regardless I’m happy for that.
So the reason I gave the manga and 8 overall was because the ending. I won’t say any spoilers however the ending definitely felt rushed and I feel as though there was a better alternative for the ending. Nevertheless, the character development for Tomoe was pretty well done. However I also don’t think that the main character Nanami really had developed as well as she could have. The story I gave a 8 too because I felt again like the ending was totally lacking from where the manga started off. It really started off great however toward the last 20 chapters or so, I feel as though it could’ve been extended and one last arc may have been missing to make this series actually complete in my eyes. Overall though, I really did enjoy this manga for what it’s worth even having to wait for 2 years. |
Kamisama Hajimemashita review
Just Wow. I have finally caught up to the last chapter and just couldn't resist writing a review. This story was loveable to begin with and the anime was very fun (if too short), but the later volumes have exceeded any of my high expectations as if too say "Hah, you thought that was good?"
STORY: As others have stated the summary and beginning alone has some very standard shoujo elements though the anime version had enough hilarious moments my fiance was able to enjoy it as well. In my late twenties now I can't help expecting and wanting more from a shoujo title. This delivered everything. This story was a treat to begin with, but then it becomes a full blown feast of characters and story plots. There is so much more depths to the characters (antagonists or protagonists), and things that seem like fun plots devices in the beginning or random hints become extremely important later on. ART: I was disappointed by some poor scans in the beginning, but as this has improved I can truly appreciate how the art style has bloomed. As an artist I truly appreciate the flow of the art and some amazing scenes. Especially in later chapters I have found myself helplessly staring and admiring a page or even a single panel. CHARACTERS: -The characters may seem predictable at first, but they are all quite three dimensional. Nanami is a much stronger character than she looks. Despite being very optimistic and cheerful, she had a very lonely pass where she was used to being self reliant. Though her feelings for Tomoe may at first seem Juvenile, her honesty, devotion, and the lengths she would go for him rise into a truly great love story. Can a human and a youkai's love for each other work? This question is asked a lot. -Tomoe can be volatile, strict, and demanding but all his personality quirks and devotion make him endearing. There's usually a reason for his temper and he's quite gentle and protective (if he's not gleefully threatening to turn an enemy into sashimi and cook them for namami). I admit I had fangirl moments when you see his past fox demon self hundreds of years ago. Gone is the protective familiar and enter in a dangerous and notorious youkai. Learning more about the mystery of his past, who he was, how he became who he is in present adds so many layers to his character and the story. - Secondary characters also shine in this manga. Mizuki the snake familiar is quite endearing in his own way and his past is both happy and sad. The Tengu Kurama seems like he is going to be the stereotypical love rival at first but he really breaks that mold and becomes a great character to have a round. Interactions between Mizuki, Kurama, and Tomoe are usually hilarious. Other characters that are introduced never completely disappear either, and sometimes even come back for a more surprising and deeper plot. Every single character in this series interests me, and there is no real black and white. Even the ones who seem most evil and you are prepared to hate... you just can't. And finally Mikagi, the land God who started this all is such a mysterious and great character. He seems outright silly in the beginning when he meets Nanami and randomly makes her the land God in his stead but there are reasons for everything. ENJOYMENT: You would be blind not to see how much I have enjoy this series by now, but I will say it again. This is such a perfect blend of humor, romance, intrigue, fantasy, and character development. I would say it feels something close to if you threw Fruits Basket and Inuyasha in together, but is still quite original by itself. |
Kamisama Hajimemashita review
I am really enjoying this manga so far, though unfortunately I haven't been able to find all the chapters yet, so I haven't quite finished it. But it's worthy of a good review.
The storyline itself is pretty typical for a fantasy/shoujo, but the characters and the style make this manga really stand out. It was such a joy to read. Lots of really witty and laugh-out-loud moments, and at the same time I'm on the edge of my seat, dying to know what happens next. The relationship between the two main characters goes through an interesting and surprisingly realistic arc, never once letting you forget that it's a romance story but starting from a very different place then most shoujo manga. The circumstances around their relationship, and all the magic in that world, are all very unique. Art is also extremely gorgeous. Beautiful large scenes and some of the most gorgeous characters I've ever seen. Definitely worth the read. A well-told story with unique and engaging characters and lots of eye-candy art. |

This was a surprisingly enjoyable shoujo manga. The forbidden love theme has been done so many times before, but the way the author added youkai (demons) and the cute relationship between the two main characters made it enjoyable to read.
If you read this, no doubt you will root for Nanami, the main character, and Tomoe, her familiar's relationship. This manga made me smile and laugh at Nanami's cute antics. The story's not the most original, Nanami, being the clumsy hardworking girl, and Tomoe, the perfect, smart but cold man. However, I loved Nanami, as she is so adorable. Her moments were also sweet, and you just can't help hoping that she'll be with Tomoe. It's a fun read and you love shoujo manga, try it. It's good! |

I'm so angry at myself for starting this manga while it's still ongoing. I initially enjoyed the anime adaptation, and figured I'd finish off the story with the manga. I'm kicking myself so hard for that, but, at the same time, I feel like there'd be something important missing in my life if I hadn't read it. It's not often I get that attached to a story.
>Story-----------10 It had a very fast-paced beginning, which initially turned me off. I thought everything was being put out there far too quickly for such a long series, but boy was I wrong. Like any good series, it just got better and better the more I read. After watching the anime, I thought it would just be a straight-up fluffly love story, but it turned out to be a lot more complex than I thought. In my view, though there is a strong romantic element, the story is really more about companionship than romance specifically. Loneliness and trust are big themes that pop up repeatedly throughout the series. >Art--------------10 Lovely. Very shoujo-y. Lots of beautiful scenery, characters that are clearly distinguished from each other (I often have a hard time telling male characters apart), and the mangaka manages to set exactly the right mood for every scene. >Characters----10 The character development is definitely the best part of Kamisama Hajimemashita. Unlike a lot of manga, you're not fully introduced to the characters right away. Their stories--both their pasts and current storylines--unfold at a very nice pace that leaves you falling just a little bit more in love with them every time they appear. Even the minor characters have a lot of charm and very distinct personalities that are easy to fall in love with. >Enjoyment----10 10/10, will continue to follow the series and probably re-read many times over once it's complete. |
Kamisama Hajimemashita review
I could spend HOURS talking about this manga, and I really do mean hours. This is by far one of my favorites and I'm actually gonna keep this short simply to get my point across:
If you're wondering whether or not to read Kamisama Hajimemashita, read it. I guess it might not be for everyone but this is not your typical shoujo manga. The main character, Nanami, is a strong, independant female role and although she seems weak and incapable at first, she continues to push on throughout the entirety of the manga. Although this world she is introduced to is new and confusing, she makes an effort to understand everyone and help even if she is not always totally prepared to do so. Over the course of the story, you can see real development in her character and her abilities as her knowledge of this new realm expands. Tomoe, Nanami's familiar is another story entirely but in the end I also came to love him too. You can genuinely see Nanami's effect on him as he grows and changes by her side. The other characters are equally as lovable and they all have their own stories to tell. You will fall in love with them and cry with them. Finally the story in general is just fantastic. You will enter the world of Gods and Yokai and still be reminded of the struggles of the human world and the overall inevitable. Finishing the last chapter today, I feel like I can truly walk away having learned something. A warning to those of you who are like me and become committed to the manga but also, unfortunately, can only speak/read english, translations for this manga are slow as of now but there are other ways to find the later installments if you are persistent ;) I sincerely hope you all read it and wish you the best of luck! |
Kamisama Hajimemashita review
I really like this manga at first and as the story progressed on, I started liking it more and more. But, there were many things that really changed my opinion about this manga.
ART 8/10: The art was really nice and I really liked it, but there was nothing really special about it. STORY 7/10: The plot of the story is unique, but the vibe of it was like any other shoujo manga. CHARACTER 8/10: At first, I thought that Nanami was a weak heroine and she needed Tomoe to save her all the time. But, she progressed and she was weak but not as weak as before. Considering she was a goddess, she was really weak which was kind off a turn down for the story. ENJOYMENT 6/10: As it was nice in the starting and the middle, I didn't like the ending at all. Overall, I will give this manga a 6/10. It was a manga that barely went over the passing mark for me. |
Kamisama Hajimemashita review
First of all, I don't understand why this manga is so underrated. I've read several reviews for this manga and most of them were saying that "something is lacking" and "could've been better". They even compared it to other shoujo mangas that have similar plots, and NONE of them were even as good! The mangas that those reviewers suggested were the predictable and fast-paced mushy lovey-dovey stories. It was irritating to the extent that I stopped reading after 4 chapters.
The story line may seem like "psh-puhleas" kinda thing, but it's not. Although the story isn't very original (since there are other mangas with story lines of protagonist girls becoming a deity), the important thing about this manga is that the mangaka doesn't rush the 'romance', it's pure genius in my opinion, 'cause it's got me thinking if Tamaome really likes Nanami, because their relationship is 'Master and Servant'. It's really hard to understand the feelings of the characters (except for nanami) because they all seem attached to Nanami because of her compassion as a master, not as a girl or as a woman. That is the genius in this manga--the readers get sucked in with the idea that the followers don't 'love' or 'like' her, they respect and want to protect her, because they love her as a 'master'. That's the illusion the mangaka is creating, but slowly, we realize the feelings of the characters in a BELIEVABLE way. Like for example, in a usual shoujo mangas, the most predictable thing a protagonisits would say is "I don't know if i love her--is this love---do I really like him---yadayada" , but in kamisama, none of the characters themselves realize their feelings. Even the readers (me) would think that their relationship is confusing. For me the good points of this manga (including the art and etc.), is that the 'romance' is quite unpredictable that it kept me up late ate night and I couldn't sleep. And you will surely look forward to seeing Nanami grow as a god(ess). story-10 art-9 character-10 enjoyment-10 overall-10 ***One thing that bothers me is that the art gets weird sometimes, but that's just me. MUST READ!!!! |
