Mahou Shoujo of the End

I really didn’t know what I should to think about this manga after few first chapters. It started as typical Japanese horror comic, but genre was changed so many times so finally I can’t rate this manga as horror only.

First of all: story. It starts with sooo typical story line, with “boring school life”, average male main character, of course our student is useless like everyone, no only in normal life, but also when deadly magical girl come to school and start to kill everybody. Then bloody massacre is stared. One by one, every new character after few chapter die in silly way. If always think that horror should make you scared, no this one. Character of story are changing few time between bloody horror and shounen with heroes who are becoming stronger despite the wounds, uh. And the end is just disappointing, and no horror at all.
Rate a art is problem for me. For one side corpses and environmental are very good, but from the other side a bodies of female characters are just… bad. You know, I don’t expect perfect drawing, but when you try to draw semi-realistic (as much as manga style allows do it) be consistent. A bust isn’t two bags with water, and why high school girl have chest more than 50 years old women who give birth 10 children… That was very distracting. No only that, all morphology of characters was cursed, as like a physic, human body can not by tear like that, more than scary it was funny and dump.
One of the main thing that make me angry when I was reading this “horror” manga was characters personality. I know that flat personality is one of characteristics of this type of manga but disproportion between main and episodic role was very unbalanced. When main characters try to fight and survive, people in the background just scream or/and beg for mercy.
Summarizing, for the last 55 chapters (manga have 64) I was thinking only about why it’s still going. My only enjoyment was when somebody was smashed, crushed, cut or blew in some curious way, that’s way I just can’t give this manga good review. However if you no cares about logic or anything literally in manga, this can be good for you.

i Really enjoyed Magical Girl Apocalypse and i recomended to everyone to read it, the story is amazing and very fun to read, the caracters is also amazing every single character have a different story and its very fun to read, the art is amazing there is a lot of details and a lot of effects that the creator added to the manga to make it perfect. really recomended for everyone who like a brutal manga and things like that, in the manga there is a 64 chapters and 2 seasons and its 16 volumes.

Mahou Shoujo of the End is a pretty terrible manga. It's about a kid who's having a really bad day. First, he sees one of his teachers get his head blown off. That's pretty bad. Then just about everybody else gets killed, too. Even worse, they get killed by a walking, talking doll. I don't know about you, but that's not a very cool way to die. Anyway, after that a whole bunch of people turn into zombies and this guy's day just goes downhill from there. I don't know. Like I said, it's pretty terrible.

The manga itself isn't anything too special. The plot isn't too incredible and the characters are pretty boring. But that's OK, because about 90% of them get killed by the first 90 pages. So you don't have to worry about their archetypes for very long. The rest will probably die in the next volume. BUT, if you like to see people get hurt, then this is the manga for you. There's about fifty people who literally have their heads blown off their bodies, I think there's a few arms and legs ripped off, a couple dudes get burned to death by a fireball, and a big old pile of people get dropped off the top of a building. So, if you don't like people, you will love reading this. I guess that makes me a pretty bad person, because I made it through the entire first volume myself. I guess I just don't like people very much. So, I guess the only reason you should read this is if you like shock horror.

Nevertheless, it kept me entertained. Oh, and I read it in Japanese, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. I learned the phrase "頭が爆発した". It means "his head exploded". I don't know about you, but I think that's a very useful phrase to remember.

Mahou Shoujo of the end is an anime that should be read by those who are looking for interest and gore. It is similar to High School of the Dead but as it goes on it turns into its own individual story. It is a series that prevents everyone from guessing where it will go and really presents a lot of questions. The characters are well developed and interesting. the art is not bad and the story is okay. I would describe it as an ecchi-horror as there is a LOT of fan service in it. From actual nudity of the breasts to boners. Not to be read with your parents. It is NSFW. But despite that it will capture you with it's actually good plot and really surprising turn of events. If you want a gore fest and don't mind the extreme fan service then try it out. It has a little bit of humor in it but does also have some rather dark themes however it is unpredictable.

I'll be honest. Many years ago I found this manga when it nearly has four chapters translated. My tastes were pretty bad by then, but even so I rated this manga as shit. Why? I'm about to explain that...

Story: 2
Even if the concept of a zombie apocalypse is new, the originality becomes questionable when the first chapters are a copy/paste from Highschool of the Dead. Seriously, even the way in which the protagonist discovers the apocalypse is exactly the same.
Aside from that, the story is a mess for many reasons.
First, is full of plot holes. For example, in the beginning people who are killed by the mahou shoujo turn into zombie. Later on this doesn't happen anymore, and everytime people die they just stay like that. It's like the author have some kind of amnesia.
Second, it tries too hard to be shocking. The story constantly introduces new characters to kill them right away. In one chapter, the author decided to do a flashback for two character who lasted no more than three episodes before dying. Sadly, you're unable to feel something for some stranger dying.
Third, dumb plot twists and the author adds stuff because yes. Sometimes it really feels like he planned nothing. I don't know what this manga is about anymore because it's a mixture of too many things.
Fourth, fanservice is everywhere. I have nothing against ecchi, but make it look natural.
Fifth, full of tropes and too many coincidences.

Art: 4
From average to bad. Action and gore looks pretty confusing sometimes and many angles are wrong. Boobs don't work like that. Muscles don't work like that. I'd gladly show you what I'm talking about if I could.
At least there's plenty funny faces for reactions.

Characters: 2
The worst part. Every character is bland, boring and archetypal. I've read 33 chapters so far and I know NOTHING about the MC. His personality is still ambiguous and his character development is zero. He's nothing but and uninteresting potato.
Then there's our main villain. He's evil for the sake of being evil. At least he isn't boring like our MC, but it doesn't save him from being your average psychopath from a third rated show.
There's a solely reason which refrains me from giving an one and that's Akuta. He has a shitty personality, doesn't care about others, wants to rape one of the female leads and deserves to burn in hell for all eternity. Yes, he's a despicable human being, but also the only interesting character and when he's in the spotlight the manga gets slightly better. He's a better MC than our current MC, and I think that the author thinks the same since he's stealing all the show for himself lately.
You know that something is wrong with a manga when a side character made for comic relief has more development than the MC.

Enjoyment: 5
I gadly give it a 10, but I'm enjoying it for the wrong reasons. Actually, I like reading bad mangas like these where nothing makes sense, and Mahou Shoujo of the Dead suprise me everytime adding more and more dumb plot twists and shonen elements. It's unpredictable. You'll never know what the author will do next to make the story even more laughable.
If you like the "so bad it's good" kind of manga, it's worth reading. Otherwise, don't ever touch it.

Overall:
Mahou Shoujo of the End fails at everything. I wouldn't recomment it to anyone.

tl:dr 6/10, forgettable protag, deranged plot, bad women's anatomy, but somehow still pretty fun, and if you like gruesome deaths, this has plenty of that.

Spoiler free review

So the art is very hit or miss in this. The way the artist draws women makes me think he hasn't seen a real woman in a long time. So be aware of that. The first half of this manga is pretty basic fare of run away from the thing that's gruesomely killing everyone, but once the plot gets going it gets... confusing and not always coherent, but enough to keep me entertained. Both the protagonist and antagonists feel pretty flat.

What works in this is they never forget that people are here to see people get ripped apart. Also it does seem like the author did remember all of his plot threads that he drops in this, and makes sure to pick them up and tie them up, even if the reasoning for how he does it is... questionable. And last major thing is I never really felt that this did the classic "sdo a flashback so they care right before I kill this underdeveloped character". Really at the end of all of this, the fights are fun to watch, and I enjoyed watching the character grow and overcome their challenges, or fail to do so.

tl;dr: A manga that’s a really good zombie manga, but goes off the rails when it tries to become something else about a third of the way through. 

This manga is one that changes pretty much completely about a third of the way in. The first third is focused on a group of people doing their best to survive a very peculiar apocalypse while trying to uncover the mysteries of what is occurring. Due to how it involves magical girls, this involves having to be a bit more tactical than when just dealing with normal zombies which leads to a lot of interesting situations. This portion also has a heavy focus on characters with some good character and relationship development, which allows a lot of the characters to come through pretty well. After that, it transitions into a story about trying to stop a villain executing a really complex plan that involves really complicated subjects like parallel worlds and time travel. This starts off decently enough, and has some good concepts such as the Magical Girls being reused in a new context. However, after the ending of what’s dubbed as the first season, it transitions into focusing on a new set of characters, and then it starts losing momentum. Things that had been interesting when they were left mysterious, start to seem kind of lame once they get more fleshed-out explanations. And ultimately, it didn’t really feel like it did a good job with any of the characters during this portion. It does feel like it tried to show character and relationship development but I don’t think it did a particularly good job at it, and I didn’t really feel connected to any of them as well as during the first season.

During the final season, it connects everything from the first season and second season. However, ultimately this ends up producing something incredibly convoluted due to the plot being pretty complex and all the stuff related to time travel and parallel worlds. This also results in the characters having to basically infodump information that the reader already knows to other characters which while generally pretty short still feels like it hurts pacing. On top of that, combining the multiple timelines screws a lot with the relationship set up from the first two seasons, and just feels all sorts of strange. It also doesn’t feel like this season even tries to focus on characters that much due to how many there are, with the exceptions of Rintarou who comes out pretty awesome and the best character in this manga, and Himeji who is a solid attempt but one that falls pretty flat. The rest of the characters, including the main character Kii end up feeling pretty lame and dull this season. The ending does manage to tie all the various plot threads together in what feels like a pretty consistent ending, and it does hit a lot of the notes it feels it should in regards to what it needs to show in the epilogue, but due to how messy the final season got it doesn’t feel as satisfying as I think it should have. The art is pretty great with good quality and lots of interesting designs, though I should note it is also incredibly creepy at times with lots of gore. 

Mahou Shoujo of The End had me at the title itself.A dark approach to the usually happy and colorful magical girls got me interested. I was expecting something like Madoka, but its way more like High School of the Dead.

This manga is all about mystery, gore, unexpected twists and really unconventional characters. It also amazing the level of crazyness: the look of the mahou shoujos, their creative way of killing, how the characters develop...The comic relief always comes from the least expected person. The plot itself is also pretty confusing and has some plenty of (at least for me) "i totally didnt see this coming" moments. So yeah, its hard to get bored with this manga.

So far, I've read all currently available 39 chapters and it seems from explaining everything, and its still very enjoyable.

Let me sum this up simply, it was like the author started off with using shock to get people in and then after around 20 chapters, all the actual plot and character development and twists spilled out of the jar. And that jar was pretty big.

This went from some weird, crazy ass shit, gore filled shitfest to a genuinely good manga with a very proper and memorable plot. Past that gore and just god knows what that other magical stuff is in the first 5 or so chapters, it starts to properly develop into a manga that plenty of good twists, a tint of gore (far far from what it was before) and 10x the plot.

It's definitely an enjoyable ride and if you think you'll enjoy a manga that has gore as a side tag, good plot (so far where I'm up to at least), pretty solid characters (don't worry "milk bags" girl isn't all there for fanservice), good memorable, funny moments and a swole af muscle magical girl who might not be all that she seems cut out to be then you'll definitely enjoy this manga.

Plus it'll be funny explaining the manga to someone with how f'ed up the beginning is.

The story is so weird, it's great. I've read a lot of horror manga, and this is definitely a new, refreshing story. Magical girls (magical zombie girls), with cute magical girl-wands, who hunt you down and kill you, while chanting "magical ~ magical ~". Twists everywhere, and a lot of sudden deaths, those became pretty common in these kind of stories, but still, when you start liking the characters, those still get you every time. There are also even some really funny scene, and not not overly kitschy, but cute and romantic scenes. But yeah, all in all, don't read this if you don't like people dying and blood splatting everywhere.

The art is very fitting for a horror manga, and of course, every ecchi has the obligatory girl with ridiculous tits. The particular girl is still a lovable character, and not just eye candy.

This is one of the few manga where I don't dislike any character. There are only a few I don't care about (mostly because they were killed off too early to get to know them). The manga has a few moments where you think "why u do dis", but that's also nothing you shouldn't question too much when it's genre is horror. Usually, I just want so see everyone getting killed off in entertaining ways. This time I was even scared for the characters, desperately hoping they will survive. Even the one character I initially hated, turned out to be a crazy yet hilarious (and even kind of cute) character.

I smiled at the cuteness of the characters, I was weirded out by the designs of the magical girls, I was surprised at some points, and I felt all fuzzy inside at the romancy-scenes, and of course the bad ass killing scenes, no matter if the good or bad guys had to go, are just the pinnacle. It's everything I like thrown into one story, and I hope the new chapters are going to be translated soon.

So, I picked this up from Chapters because the title and description. The premise is pretty original but the writing is where this story falls apart for me. You can make a series that's pretty much copy and paste from the last series in that genre, at least premise wise. But if you have a good grasp on character development and plot progression and give a small twist of originality and voice you can have something that's written well. You don't have to be completely original to be a good writer. So where as this series has a good amount of originality to it, as can be seen in the first volume, that's it, it get's a point for originality, bringing the story to a 2 out of 10 for me. Why do I bring up this argument and explanation, well people seem to be over loving this series due to it's originality, I just think it's a bit overrated. This is also one of the only series I have ever dropped. And after the first volume I got that the main character is a sexist asshole, that's pretty much it. It gave me a Gantz feel in that respect, which was the other series I dropped. So no, I didn't enjoy this series and the highest rating I can give this series is a 2.66 out of 10.

And to make a villain frightening you have to do more than give them a disturbing appearance, you have to introduce them slowly.

I'm sorry but I feel it's trying too hard to be a mixture of Magica Madoka and Deadman Wonderland. It's more about a dense MC surrounded by a harem group of cute girls and just try to attack evil magical girls who are pretty much making zombies out of their victims.

Interesting concept but it just didn't sway me enough to read more because of its unoriginality and just the character development needed to be desperately better. Also the art was detailed enough but some of the characters designs looked rather off (especially the Yoruka character).

If you’re a fan of gore than Mahou Shoujo of the End is the manga for you, which starts right from chapter 1. The story starts off as you would expect of an “apocalypse” manga and you don’t really get into the plot until chapter 10, from there the plot is pretty good until you reach chapter 21 from then on I found it at times confusing with all the crazy plot twists they were throwing in. It seemed like they couldn’t settle on one idea for this manga and instead just threw in a bunch of ideas and tried to work them in. I prefer my manga pretty straightforward with a few plot twist to keep it interesting but this was one too many. So if you like horror and gore I definitely would check this one out as I think it’s worth reading but I wasn’t a fan of the crazy plot.

Every time I read another volume of Magical Girl of the End I ask myself:
Why do I read this?

Firstly the manga starts as a zombie like manga with the zombies being replaced by evil magical girls. Humans that got killed also act like your typical zombies would.
In the first volumes there is only death and despair and splatter all around, so you definitely get on your horror splatter costs! Later on the plot actually progresses which is rare to see in any zombie manga! At one cetrain point the story gets kinda confusing so if you aren't up something that offers something a bit more complicated of a story this might not be for you.
One thing I really dislike is one cetrain perverted character and the whole sexualation in this manga, it made me a bit unconfortable.

The characters itself aren't all that memorable, you might remember some aspects of some characters but that might be it.
I think the art isn't all that spectacular but it really shows off it's horror aspects really well!

So why do I read this manga? Is it because of this crazy brutality? Is it that you never really know what this manga will do next? I don't know but despite everything seeming so average yet changing plot where you really have to wonder what the manga is really about I do enjoy reading this and see what events will occur next!

For some reason it didn't surprise me when I got to the end of this manga and the author's final note basically said, "yeah this story was convoluted and made no sense half the time, I am never doing this again." Because my god was he no exaggerating. Usually when stuff like this happens I end giving the manga a 5 or a 4, but for some reason I'm giving it a 7. Perhaps because in some way, up until the very final 3 chapters, a seriously found some certain ironic enjoyment out of this series' bananas plot line, with all the stupid time travel and plot twists.
I can't quite explain it, perhaps that is why I understand why so many people hate this manga. In all honesty, it is pretty bad on an objective scale, but for some reason I was felt a connection the the author's weird sense of humor or character archetypes, at the very least they were more interesting than most other generic action trash I've read. So yeah go into this one with a grain of salt.

This manga isn't for those who have weak stomaches, or for those who like long epic battle scenes.

I found the concept of this to be extremly intriguing. Magical girls killing making their victims zombie slave things. Since this manga is still going on I can't go into much detail, but I hope they explain everything that happens, and how/why it does.
A lot of people dislike that people try to rape other's, or make insults against women. Honestly I know people who in situation would probably do that, and even so I don't think that that's worth this manga being considered bad.

Art:6
I like how every character looks different, unlike how in most anime all the character's have the same face only different hair, body, and eyes. But most of the character look either like someone from a moe manga, or they look like typical shonen manga character's with chiseled faces made by angles, or women with big everything from lips to breast.
Action scenes I actually like cause they're quick, and simple. I can't handle long action fight scenes that last twenty chapter's with almost no story, or character development happening.

As for the character's let's begin with our protagnist's who's name I don't feel like memorizing. He is your typical stock character so he doesn't have anything specail. Although even though he's a stock character his indiviuality among them is he knows he is, and he accepts it. Most stock character's like Hinata from SDR2, or Chihiro from TWGOK all want some talent. So him being fine with what he is is kinda new to me which I like. As for other character's some of them seem rather intersting, but most of their backstory's seem rather plain which I don't like.

I honestly really enjoyed this manga, and I'm waiting in anticaption for more chapters. I liked how action scenes didn't last long, and how not a single group of people survive until the end. I can't predict things like who'll die next, or what's going to happen to everyone which I like.

I can't say for certain since this is still not finished, but everything I really liked. If you could overlooks some of the smaller details such as sexist insults, or overly sexualize people (meaning both the man who want it, and the women who are drawn that way) this is actually a really good read. I would recommend it to anyone who is able to handle more grotesque stuff like this.

MSotE is an apocalypse/pandemonium type manga...and it does that really well. An issue in a virtually all action manga (including other similar types) is that one often does not get a true sense of danger/pandemonium. Why? Because you know the characters are being protected by the plot.

It doesn't matter how much danger, chaos, and general killings are happening all around, you know nothing will happen to the main characters, so you never need to wonder if any of them will die next. Because, in most cases, absolutely none of them will die at all.

MSotE throws that out the window. From start to finish, characters are dying left and right, including primary characters. The manga would introduce you to people, then just as soon as you get acquainted and even begin to like them, it snatches them away in a flurry of blood. By the half way point of the manga, one can't helped but think absolutely no one is safe.

...which is EXACTLY how this type of manga should make you feel. For that reason alone, I have come to greatly like MSofE.

Unfortunately, the premise and the daring audacity of MSotE is basically the best part of it. Most of the rest of the manga is standard, but some aspects -- particularly the story and the characters -- could use some work.

I won't get into it in detail, but in short, the story comes off as cheesy when they start trying to become deeper and give an explanation of the events. As for the characters, they go through far too many major changes; it gives off the feeling that the author can't decide on their personality or has a hard time with character development transitions.

Plus, it would be nice if the manga didn't keep putting one of the characters -- a corrupt, murdering, molester rapist cop -- in a heroic light.

But putting that aside, overall, my rating for MSotE is a 7/10. It has its flaws, but for the most part, it is a good manga.

It's a mix of the zombie and dark magical girl tropes, but has some nice redeeming qualities. Unlike a lot of zombie/disaster stories, the characters often survive because of their wits and good planning rather than dumb luck, which is refreshing. The story becomes more intriguing as it progresses and takes some interesting and unexpected turns. The trials and mysteries the characters face become increasingly engrossing the more you read. Also, the pacing is pretty on-point.
Characters: 6.5
The main character, Kogami, is pretty bland. In fact, he's the only character among the main cast whose name I couldn't recall. My favorite character is probably Yoruka. She seems like a typical "oppai" character, but as she develops she becomes very charming and more well-rounded. She's got a good mix of strengths and weaknesses - she's pretty tough and doesn't take shit from anyone, but has her fair share of insecurities. I find Akuta (the police officer) strangely loveable despite his psychopathic antics. Normally I'm very turned off by misogynistic characters like this, but his ability to scheme and think on his toes and his strange dedication to Yoruka (which seems to take a step beyond regular sexual attraction in later chapters) made me like him sort of begrudgingly. Tsukune is a little trope-y, though her character development was well-paced and her "twist" fairly well-executed, if a little melodramatic in some aspects. Sayano is also somewhat of an archetype, but in an unexpected way.
Art: 6.5
The mahou shoujo look awesome, but other than that the art can be lackluster at times. The gore, while pretty damn cool and inventive in some parts, can also be confusing to look at. The anatomy also needs work.
Enjoyment: 8.5
Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed this manga. It has a strange charm that makes it sort of addicting.
Overall the people who rated it a 1 are probably justified, but I would say give it a shot if you like the genre.
Also: I feel it is of note that this story has some misogynistic elements and several instances of sexual assault (though none of the characters actually get raped).

Art: The artwork is fine, it's clean and modern-looking. Designs are uninspired. Action scenes are confusing because they are often drawn unclearly.

Plot: The story is too hopeless. It's hard to care when the deck is stacked so completely against the protagonists. It's too dark and the events are paced poorly. The female characters are constantly in danger of being raped. It's disgusting.

Characters: Fairly boring, stock stereotypes. The women are fetish vessels. The men are either rapists or asexual presences. Our Male Protagonist (TM) is your typical, boring audience surrogate.

Overall:And yet, despite all of this, I marathoned this manga and had a good time. It's TERRIBLE, but it's intriguing. It borders on so bad it's good. If you have a strong stomach and a good sense of humor, you may find enjoyment from this.

I honestly have no idea why I read this entire manga. I suppose I got sucked into the initial premise, which was interesting, and then by the time I was fairly invested in it, it started to really grate on my nerves and I finished it out of spite.
The premise of killer lolita/magical girl robots (?) was interesting, I must admit. The gore was very over-the-top, so if you have a weak stomach, I wouldn't recommend this manga.
The story starts off leading you to believe it will revolve around the survival of the characters during the Magical Girl Apocalypse, but it actually gets quite a bit more complicated as time goes on. By the end of the story, it's downright ridiculous. New plot threads and characters are thrown in consistently, and it was a bit difficult to keep track of who was who and what their part was in the overall story which became increasingly convoluted as time went on.

However, the biggest drawback to the entire manga was not the story, but the characters. None of the characters had any unique personalities, interesting backstories, or character development. Even the main character (Kogami Kii) had no traits that I can name off the top of my head that made him stand out.

This manga also has the inclusion of one of THE MOST unlikeable characters I have ever seen in a manga. Specifically, Akuta Rintarou. His entire personality (if you can even call it that) revolves around being a disgusting pervert the entire time. All he does is lust after high school girls, specifically Yoruka Hanzawa whom he calls "Lil' Miss Funbags" in reference to her gigantic knockers. He literally spends the entire manga doing nothing but trying to bang her, or masturbate. He's also a sociopath who literally cares for no-one and only steps up to defend Yoruka because if she's dead, how can he have sex with her? (Not that he's picky about having sex with a corpse.) I expected him to get killed off early on (in fact, I prayed for it to happen) only for him to play a central role in the plot and become some sort of hero later on, even though that goes against his whole "I don't care about anyone" schtick.
Pervert characters play a role in a lot of different manga, but they offset this with the inclusion of interesting backstories, and the fact that the pervert aspect of their personality doesn't define their entire character. Akuta fails in this respect because that literally defines everything about him. Caring for others? Nope. Being selfless? Nope. Forging any meaningful connections with other characters? Nope. Having some sort of goal beyond wanting to grope Yoruka's titties? Nope. He's a completely loathsome asshole with no redeeming qualities.

Over time, the story continued to become more and more ridiculous until it ended. It had a happy enough ending, for those of you who actually care about stuff like that.

Art-wise, it was good in some aspects, but terrible in others. The author has good attention to detail, especially when it comes to city-scapes and backgrounds. However, his art fails spectacularly in the anatomy department. Strange proportions, skewed faces, poor hand/feet anatomy... he should maybe practice drawing people a little more. The designs of the magical girls was also pretty creative, as well as the horrifying powers each one possessed.

Overall, this wasn't the WORST thing I've ever read. There was some interesting ideas here and there, but all of it was completely ruined by the lackluster characters.
