Rockman Zero review

The Rockman Zero manga interpretation and adaptation is quite the difficult beast to explain, straying from the original source material and having little in common with the video game series it was based off of from the beginning.

Art: The art style does little to portray the despair and mature tones that the games depicted, opting for a much more childish and cute environment and characters. The original style itself is recreated for the cover of the first volume, but is never used again, instead replaced with a childish Zero introduced in the second arc.

Character: Characters in the manga are outright cartoonish in nature, and nothing like their counterparts, much like Ciel's tsundere nature, the new appearance of Omega, and changes to Zero that attempt to disempower him. Though original characters are introduced and setup to a unique concept like Roze and Cial, the execution never leads to anything interesting or noteworthy.

Enjoyment: When I think of Megaman Zero, I see the nearly impossible odds and the struggle against the overwhelming might of Neo-Arcadia, and the difficulty that forces players to be victorious through repetition. I seemed more dumbfounded than anything else while reading through the series and wondering if the creator had actually seen much of the source material.
