Nise no Chigiri review

I came across this manga while looking for mangas with ninjas involved and immediately fell in love with the gorgeous art even if the story wasn't all that new.

Story 5/10

As I said, time slips are nothing new however this story had a lot of potential but all the way through it I felt it was rushed, allowing little action, the scenes were two pages long at the most, and sadly it allowed very little (if any) character development. All this meant that there were plot holes so big, you could drive a truck through them. It should have been at least twice its length for the story to be told in a satisfying manner in my opinion.

Art 10/10

I'm usually very picky with the mangas I choose to read because I basically favor the art before te argument, and in Nise no Chigiri the art is absolutely gorgeous. It's clean and the scenes are easy to follow, even the action packed ones which I'm sure are the trickiest parts for any mangaka. So even though I became really frustrated with the super fast pace of the story that wouldn't even allow me to care for what was happening, the art was so good that it was worth the effort of finishing it.

Character 7/10

There was no character development and so it felt like most of them were very clichéd. Let me explain:
-The bad guy with a terrible past that forced him to be the way he is.
-The friend that suddenly becomes a backstabbing traitor.
-The gentle and naive heroine that needs protection from every single male in the story.
-The quiet one who barely speaks.
-The friendly boy with a pet constantly on his shoulder.
And the list goes on and on...

Don't get me wrong, they were likable characters, none of them were unbearably annoying, but it was difficult to care about them and their well being when they were so poorly fleshed out. We get to know nothing about them except that all of the men are interested in one way or another on the heroine (big surprise huh?) and that she suddenly wakes up one day and feels at home between them.

To be honest, I would have rated this section with a 5 but I'm a sucker for bishies and this manga is crawling with them so bear with me..

Enjoyment 6/10

It was a fairly entertaining manga to read while I was sick in bed but it's not memorable at all so..

Overall 7/10

This would have been a 5/6 if the art had been mediocre, so read it if you have nothing else to read or if your mind numbingly bored.
However if you'd like to read better told story about ninjas and time slips my personal favorite is Shinobi Life, so check it out!
