Shokugeki no Souma review

What a wonderful bait switch that Food Wars contains. What starts off as a seemingly generic shonen series with ecchi elements gradually evolves into one of the greatest battle shonen manga I've ever read.

Story: 9

What's amazing to me about Food Wars is its balance between epic action moments, and equally as great character moments. For every "food war" there is time spent building up characters making Food Wars cast incredibly likable and memorable. Each chapter seems to have something to add, and for a weekly Shonen series that is incredible.

Art: 9

Every time I read Food Wars I need to eat something because if I don't I find myself incredibly hungry. Shun Saeki has a masterful handle on making the food seem extremely appetizing. Some the of the detail given makes the food in certain instances see almost real! As for the general art work it's at a higher consistent quality that other weekly series lack.

Characters: 9

What starts off as a bundle of stereotypes evolves into fully fleshed out Characters. You feel like each one of the characters has their own motivations and reasons to be at Totsuki. Most of all, the characters protagonist or antagonist seem be just that good characters. You find yourself growing attached to the main cast and you love to hate on the villains of the series.

Overall: 9.5
