When I first started the first part of this manga, I was thrilled with the gore, the view of society through a ghoul and human perspective, and the character development Kaneki endured. I enjoyed and hated the sequel.

The pacing was fine and the story was interesting and thrilling to see in the second half, but I just wish some of the character arcs or characters in general were improved upon. The characters from the first half's arcs are very good, but the newer characters' arc are vague (depending on the character) and confusing. Not to mention that the newer character's personalities are mediocre at best.

Although it is a bit iffy, it is still an enjoyable manga, and I would probably recommend reading the manga before starting the anime.
