Akatsuki no Yona review
I am going to start this review by blatantly stating that Akatsuki no Yona is one of the best manga serials that I have read in a long time, quite possibly ever.

The facets that make Yona of the Dawn such a satisfying pleasure are vast. You have a delightful array of characters that have much more depth than you can imagine. The rich historical lore and feudal countries with a backdrop of political warfare provide the story with a foundation that is fresh and alluring. The action sequences are suspenseful and can leave you at the edge of your seat. Did I mention the characters? The charming and delicious looking cast of crazies that you cannot help but love, even if they aren’t necessarily the “good guys?” Lastly, the art is breathtakingly gorgeous!

Let’s examine the characters for a second. Going over every single one of them and why they are so badass is not what I am talking about. My focus is singularly going to be on our female protagonist. I admire her so much. She is the type of female heroine that I cannot help but devour during a literary adventure. Sure, she’s a spoiled, bratty princess but that only lasts for about the first five minutes (relatively speaking of course). Yona, as she is thus named, is a true visage of inner-strength and self-growth. Most leading ladies in manga serials, even the super serious ones, are always portrayed as the “victims,” be it for emotional, physical, whatever kinds of abuse, however. Yona is not a victim. She never allows herself to fall into such a pathetic category because she is forced to realize that life goes on, whether you are ready for it to or not. In that sense, I think there are a lot of women out there, especially young girls, who could really relate to someone like her.

My second-favourite part of the series? THE ART! It is so amazingly stunning that I seriously cannot emphasize it enough. The details for each panel are positively exquisite. When the panels are jam-packed from corner to corner, you do not feel overwhelmed at all. Your eyes get bright and eager to absorb everything. Kusanagi-san has an impeccable talent for making her art emanate a simple sophistication that is visually addictive. I easily flipped from one page to the next and the next and the next for the sheer fact that I could not seem to satiate my desire to experience more of these drawings. Even if the panels are depicting one character or one item, essentially being “empty” or “blank” for the most part, it does not exude a lazy, or incomplete vibe. I have gotten that sensation from other manga that I have read and it is not a fun feeling to have.

I know that Yona of the Dawn is not a finished product, nonetheless my rating for the entire series is ten out of ten and a platinum platter presentation to my favourites bin. Anything less would be an insult to it in more ways than one.

REAL review
A manga revolving around wheelchair basketball. This is another representation of the manga form's greatest asset: variety. There are manga out there about any subject, topic or issue. There is a manga out there for everyone. Real is for everyone. Everyone with matured tastes anyway. It needs to be made clear that this manga is heavy on characterisation and not on battle royales involving hoops.

Takehiko Inoue's Real is his most mature and accomplished work. You won’t find constant court action here with secret techniques powering up people. This is a tale about three young men, the issue of disability in Japan, and of course basketball.

Nomiya is a rash outspoken school dropout searching for a purpose in life. Everything about him says he should not give a shit and just be a hooligan, but inside that rough exterior of his is a decent person wanting to make good use of his life. This is a man who acknowledges who he is, a very mature act indeed. He looks for redemption in the girl who he caused to become disabled thanks to a traffic accident.

Togawa is already in a wheelchair and a rabid basketball player. His arc is more predictable in the Slam Dunk mould of wanting to be a better player, setting his sights on a rival to use as a measuring stick for his own skills. How he got into the wheelchair is more interesting than what he's doing in it, but regardless his predicament is still engaging in a conventional sense. You root for him to succeed.

Takahashi is an antagonist introduced early on, making Nomiya's life a misery by not adhering to the spirit of sportsmanship, causing Nomiya to become an outcast by turning the school team against him. He's pretty much your typical teenager, ugly egotistical traits and all. He unexpectedly becomes the reader's guide to disability and enables Takehiko Inoue to explore the horror of having control of your own body and senses wrenched away from you. This character's arc is by far the most compelling, as Inoue slowly turns the hateful archetypical bully of the first volume into a relatable person by the fourth.

Reading this manga I kept trying to spot how Takehiko Inoue would go wrong; would make glaring mistakes or fall for convention. But he doesn’t. There's no typical genre formula for the basketball games, there's no beat by beat rundown of disability like you'd expect in some shonen genre tale with commentators spelling everything out for you. This is simply a tale led by three main characters dealing with what’s real in their lives, how to differentiate between reality and fantasy whether it be in society status or relationships, the falsities between the lines, how to hold onto truths, how to discover them in the first place.

How to deal with the cold harsh and undeniably true-to-life act of being abandoned by your so-called friends when you lose the ability to walk. How to continue to live in your new state, bearing that crushing defeat, the humiliation and loneliness that comes rushing in when you are outcast by nearly everyone in your life.

Real is Takehiko Inoue's best manga to date, it doesn’t use basketball games as a crutch, it doesnt revel in clichéd tropes of manga, it’s just simply a compelling story with a backdrop that’s rare to the manga form, so kudos to the author for going there and tackling it responsibly and creatively.

Real isn’t going to be everyone's cup of tea, because some are so used to associating manga with certain tropes. This most certainly isn’t Slam Dunk part two, but if you've an open mind and want to be pulled into the plights and trials of three young Japanese men dealing with life's challenges, drawn exquisitely by one of manga's most skilled artists, then read Real.

Before I begin I will say that I don't know if there was a movie or something that this is based on. If there is I would gladly watch it and consider changing the score here.
*sigh* so lets' begin:

Story: 6
It had potential. I like reading apocalyptic stories, but I can't help but think this wasn't done well. It reminds me of some other apocalyptic series', only more cliche and watered down. It's almost like the artist wasn't allowed to draw any more than two volumes worth of material, and everything was forced into the series; that adds to the confusion. For the longest time I had no idea what was going on and I had to read many sections over a few times.

Art and character: 2 and 3 respectively.
I'm putting these two together because they both make little sense. The mangaka knows how to draw, and I can see that, but the extra lines almost hides the story behind them. There were times when I had no idea what was going on because the weird lines were everywhere. The characters were good, but what they looked like confused me to no end. A good many of the "normal looking" characters looked identical to each other. On the other hand, the "bad looking" characters were all had disfigured faces and wrinkles where there shouldn't be. If you want to read something where the "good guys" and the "Bad guys" can easily be identified by how awful they look, then this is the series for you; that is if you can find the minute details that make each "normal" character unique(I've yet to find them).

Enjoyment: 1
There were way too many ideas crammed in the series to make it enjoyable. That, and the weird art ruined the series. There were many times when I just wanted to leave the manga alone, but I kept thinking that it will make sense at the end. Unfortunately I was let down.

Overall: 1
There's nothing to see here. Everything about this series could have been done much better with the exception of the story. This is probably one of the first times I've read a manga where the story couldn't possibly help it.

Please don't flame me or anything. Like I said in the beginning: if this was based off of a movie I would like to see it. If this manga actually did the movie justice then I will honestly change this review to reflect it.

Renai Harem Game Shuuryou no Oshirase ga Kuru Koro ni review
Remember "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You," this is almost similar to that with a deserved horror plot.
First of all, if you read the MAL plot then I don't think I need to explain it further but it's not worth the time. The MC kinda drags the girls into a death game for his harem where the girls will be killing each other in order to survive. It's like forcing girls to play a part of a harem under the threat of a fate worse than death (an eternal loop of dying). And the main BOY is unaware of it. He has no idea about how the girls are handling this deadly game . They are forced to do all short of ecchi-harem stuffs(not everything) that they don't want and the BOY seems to enjoy it. The boy is not even the MC here. You'll find the reason very soon.
A death harem game is actually a new topic I am reading. But its not amusing. The author placed the black haired girl as the MC and the other girls are like her acquaintances(more like employees in a work). And the Boy is the plot device here. I have nothing more to say about the story.
The worst part is the finale. The finale is buullshiitt. First things first, the demon dies. But the girls who were forced to play the death game accepts the Harem. WTF?! Why? All the Male MC did was an apology. And the girls seemed to be pretty happy with that. I don't know what happened but I think the author did this intentionally.
But if you're really a light hearted RomCom-Harem Anime fan, then you should not watch it. But if you're tired of these Harem-OPMC bullshitts then you're welcome. Its really short to be amusing but Harem haters will enjoy it.
But the story is so much messed up that it does not deserve more than 4/10 in my opinion.

Hinamizawa Teiryuujo: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Genten review
*Please note that I will not be comparing Hinamizawa Teiryuujoto it's alternate series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It will be rated on my impression of the series itself, not based on outside influences.*

STORY (7)
-The story takes place underneath a bus stop where a group of people share stories to pass the time while waiting for the bus in the rain. The stories however are directed toward the village Hinamizawa and the dam constructing project. The stories though are suspected to be true and that the unexplained deaths explained are caused by Hinamizawa's shrine god Oyashiro. It's basically your typical storytelling manga but with a horror twist. The stories interest me but there is no action involved in the real world underneath the bus stop. I predict in the coming chapters though that there will be.

ART (9)
-The graphics are very highly oriented to a horror manga, which it is. The violent scenes appealed to me because of how clean it looks. You can easily distinguish the characters by look, no two look alike at all. The characters themselves look appealing (at least the girls). The backgrounds are highly detailed without any white-outs (blank backgrounds).

CHARACTER (9)
-Each character is totally different from one another. There are two high school students Mion and Rika whose personalities are the exact opposite of each other. There is a photographer named Mitsuru who came to Hinamizawa to research Oyashiro's Curse. The last two characters are dam workers Tonegawa and Arakawa. Tonegawa doubts Oyashiro's Curse and believes it's all coincidence. Or he hopes it is. Arakawa is a witness to multiple accounts of his co-worker's death and is a believer of the curse, having seen it for himself multiple times.

ENJOYMENT (8)
-In truth it was a pretty interesting manga. I liked the horror sequences and the occasional humor placed throughout the series. Though it is not recommended for people who dislike horror manga, for those who do will enjoy it.

OVERALL (8)
-Though I've only read three chapters due to the fact that I am unable to find any raws, the time I spent reading it was non-regrettable. Ryukishi07 has yet to fail me and I recommend this to any horror or mystery fan. Though it doesn't make your hair stand on end, you will wonder what will happen next and what will befall the small group underneath the bus stop in the rain.
