Death Note review
Death Note is a thrilling, captivating manga, which will let you wonder and guess the whole time.

Story:
Yagami Light, a brilliant high school student, finds a notebook Every person of which his/her name is written in the notebook will die-if the cause of death is specifically written that will happen, unless it's something that can't happen;like someone from Japan dying in England, and if the cause of death isn't written the person will die of a heart attack-, with a few other rules. The Shinigami Ryuk/Ryuuku had dropped the notebook on purpose out of boredom and has to follow Light, the owner of the notebook, now. Light has a strong sense of justice and a strong will and has decided to kill off all criminals who commited big crimes-he doesn't punish people who commited small crimes, people who didn't do the crimes on purpose or people with a criminal record but who changed-and to let the world know someone is punishing evil people getting sudden heart attacks becomes Kira's trade mark. When criminals keep dropping dead the people nickname him Kira en the authorities send the legendary detective L.With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal... or his life? The story was great-in the first half it was the absolute best for me. The second half was nice too, but not as great. After 'major spoiler'-like the others call it-I was truly shocked. Really, for a second I thought it was just a joke. After all that happened I didn't expect thát to happen. Most people stop reading it at that point, but I wanted to know how it ended and then I got shocked again. Still, I promise it's worth to read it. I agree with the other people who say it would have ended better at the point of 'major spoiler',but it's still great to read. It's like a cat-and-mouse game and I keep getting like 'Okay, what?' at points when they think so far ahead as how they would respond to the plan of the enemy on their plan or how their plan worked-I was really confused at the end thanks to Nears response-but okay. Mello and Near appear later as more of Lights enemies, but L still surpasses them for me. I still give the story a 10 as it still managed to keep me on the edge of my seat.

Art:
The arts great-I really get goosebumps at times when Light shows me an unbelievably creepy smirk and then comes up with even more versions of it.It's drawed well and accurate, so I give it a 10.

Character:
The characters are truly astonishing. Light is so smart that it's frightening and L is on par with him. Really, the characters developed greatly and you managed to understand them and predict their reactions. Well this obviously doesn't count for Light,L or Near. Even though most people dislike Light because he uses people to achieve his goals-mostly Misa,to which Light is everything-and because he looks down on people, but I took quite a liking to Light-well apart from the creepy smirks and the using and looking down on people Light is just trying to get a better world. I wonder if Light never had picked up the notebook and someone else had become Kira, would he and L have become friends?I really hope so. The Shinigami were quite scary at the beginning, but I began to take a liking to Ryuuku,Rem and Shidou-Shidou was so foolishly adorable it was hard not to. All in all I give the characters a 10 too.

Enjoyment:
I really enjoyed reading this and couldn't stop reading it once I started. If you are looking for something which will make you sit on the edge of your seat the whole time, keeping you wondering and guessing what will happen, then this is the ideal manga for you.If your just looking for something enjoyable you should give it a try to. It's worth it. I give it a 10 too.

Overall:10/10
Well, you wouldn't expect any other score with all the 10s I gave,eh? But still, I really love this manga. It's awesome and you'll surely like it.
Just give it a try and keep reading.

Becchin to Mandara review
It happens again. I think that I’ve already read enough of Jiro Matsumoto and I am completely desensitized, then I pick something by him up and it gets to me. Damn you, Jiro Matsumoto, I am disturbed and impressed again! Surprisingly, what you see here is one of his deeper manga, one, which is especially interesting in the context of his other works. And I wouldn’t recommend it as an entry point for those unfamiliar.

I didn’t want to bother with this text, and I hate to be the person who argues with the way others read, but the reviews here bug me a bit. I’ve seen the same complaints about Freesia, and yet again I don’t understand some of them. The first being that the manga lacks plot, the second is the lack of social commentary.

While I agree that many plotlines here stay unresolved (namely the plotlines of individual characters remain tangles of hints and suppressed memories until and past the end), the main progression is pretty clear and is, more importantly, explained by the characters themselves. What we see here is sort of a shift change in the local purgatory – the place where the dead transition to the otherworld. Perhaps the main storyline can even be considered simple, though it is loaded with psychological complications, non-linear episodes and surreal trips. And Becchin and Mandara is not centered about social stuff, nor did it ever intend to be, from what I see, although it does contain some jabs on current society. Yeah, there is war, but a background war is present in most of Jiro Matsumoto’s works.

Nor only do the events take place in the crossing place and some of the characters cross lines, it seems to me that this manga is sort of transitory for the mangaka too – a brief feverish return to Freesia and the subsequent shift to the warring shoolgirls period simultaneously. After all we see a character, that looks and acts like Hiroshi Kano (the protagonist of Freesia, who, here, talks about the author directly as if he had an experience of playing his part before), passing the relay baton to the mad schoolgirl Becchin. I wonder, if Jiro Matsumoto’s worlds altogether moved closer to hell after this, since the warring schoolgirls settings (in Houkago no Hiroko, Zenryou naru Itan no Machi, Joshi Kouhei) are so inhuman and bloody, and he is working on “Alice in Hell”… For some reason I find Bacchin to Mandara heart-wrenchingly sad. Oh, and btw, the 4th wall is broken a lot in this series – it’s filled to the brim with references to anime culture, mainly Gundam and Ghibly.

I don’t think I overanalyze it. When reading, mind it (if you don’t already) that Jiro Matsumoto’s manga tends to be built like a good literary work – besides the layer of the characters’ actions there’re motifs, composition, imagery that add an additional level. What character do isn’t necessary the very point of the work they inhabit. Things that seem random at first return and play important parts. But, yeah, sometimes its’ not easy to keep track, and not everything is connected in the end, unfortunately. Personally I felt a sense of conclusion, even though I couldn't understand everything.

The art is the usual gritty, graphical and overdetailed mess. The characteristic pitch-black humor is there. The gore is overabundant – if somebody isn’t raped, then somebody is killed or people talk nuts, usually all of this happens at once. Though in the end I ponder not why I read a manga with a schoolgirl shitting and retching at once, but the ecology of death. It was interesting to have a glimpse in Jiro Matsumoto’s cosmology too, he doesn’t focus on it often.

It’s a fine read for anyone familiar or ready for Jiro Matsumoto’s storytelling (forgive me for mentioning his name so many times, but it’s all so typical), but it may take effort to parse. If you fit these criteria, don’t be discouraged by the low rating. It’s rough but impactful.

The Red Soul review
Okay, I overrated this manga the first time round.

Actually, the art isn't that good. Leaving aside the fact that Tama and Shumire look identical even though one is a man and the other is a woman, the contours of the face is just not very well drawn. Dark Mage has better art.

The action scenes, as I said before, are lackluster: Kiron throws an axe. God gets killed. That just about sums up half the "fight scenes" in this manga. The other half is people getting impaled by claws or spears or something pointy like that. Dark Mage has much better action scenes.

The story is also a bit nonsensical. There are "gods" who can get killed. But some gods can respawn, apparently. There's also a "king of man", which can kill gods - but it was all a part of Aizen's - woops, I meant Death God's - plan! Yes, Kiron's entire life, including meeting Aida, was all planned way in advance by the Death God, to turn him into something that kills gods, even thought the death god is a god! And then the death god gets killed by Kiron, his own creation. Which somehow leads to his other half respawning and resurrecting Aida. Also there's mana from the stars which is somehow guarded by a vampire (but only if he doesn't drink human blood) who can send it back to the stars and make it beyond the grasp of humans (but not gods), and Shumire can just become a god because she wants to, for some reason. Then she gets killed and respawns and looks like a floating glowing human. Oh and she gives the star mana to Tama, because she can just do that.

Makes perfect sense.

All in all, I would recommend Dark Mage over this manga if you like fantasy and martial arts.

WELCOME TO ANOTHER ONE OF MY BIASED REVIEWS. FILLED WITH SPOILERS.

Let's just say that this is going to be an angry one. Starting off with the ratings...
Story - 8
Art - 7
Character - 6
Enjoyment - 6
Overall - 7

Summary of my thoughts on this manga...
Good point(s) - Sexy, REAL sexy scenes + Interesting plot
Bad point(s) - I feel that this is more of a personal thing, I just can't seem to sympathise with the characters. I feel empty. I don't feel any emotions(apart from natural hormonal reactions caused by the sexy scenes) throughout reading the manga. I'll go more into this later.

Story -
I don't have much to say about it, interesting plot twist, nice guys turning dark and evil over desires are always something that amuses me(except in Sasuke's case. But then I've hated him from the very beginning so that's a different story.)

The reason why I can't seem to feel for the characters is probably cause the amount of sexy scenes overpowers everything else so much that I can't seem to take the "everything else" seriously. Exaggerated example, 15pages is spent on the sexy scene while 2 pages are suppose to be the "emotional" part. What do you expect me to feel, man.

(SPOILER)Like when Mio found out that they were siblings, she started crying and whining and all and I'm like, "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA siblings..... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" cause by that point I'm already feeling pretty annoyed. Then Jinnai just made it worse, when he heard about it, he just started taking off his glasses and... Sexy scene starts. WHAT THE? Shouldn't this be an emotional moment??? Why???(SPOILER)

And I add that sexy scenes can start anytime, anywhere, anyhow, when the author feels like it, she'll put one in.

The one part I did really like about the story was when Hinata "paid back" what Jinnai did previously, using the authority he gained... Awesome

Art -
Delicious sexy scenes alert~~~ but apart from that, nothing special. That's all.

Character -
GOD. This is where it drove me half-mad. What use is having a great story if the characters fail to execute it and bring out the greatness in it? No use.

Okay then, let me ask you a few questions. What is so good about Mio? Apart from the fact that she has a godly figure of cause. 'Kay, she's a caring sister and well... Isn't it only normal that she acts that way? Sisters are suppose to be caring, all my female friends who have younger brothers are like that, they clean up after their younger brothers, tolerate their temper and stuff. It's natural. I don't have any personal experience since I only have a married older brother who's like 15 and a half years older than me.

(SPOILER)Moving on, what kind of CHILD takes off another CHILD's glasses and kisses the CHILD? Failed parenting? I'm talking logic here. If the parents I know sees their child doing such a thing, they would probably slap/spank them. Like seriously, it's improper, even teenagers doing that will get unpleasant stares from people, plus possible lectures/slaps from their parents.(SPOILER)

And bout Mio liking that Jinnai guy...

*YOU ONLY LIKE HIM CAUSE HE MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD*

When I completed the manga, I went over what I've just read in my head and I'm like... What the? That guy just kept molesting her and she fell in love not long after that saying that "the part where he touched me felt hot" whatnot blah blah blah... Seriously. She doesn't like you for your money, brother, she likes you for your body.

(SPOILER)Don't start giving me what childhood crap, she fell in love even before remembering them, the childhood stuff was just an interesting plot point ruined by horrible characters.(SPOILER)

Reinforcing something I read from the mangafox forum: When was the last time Mio called him by his given name? I almost thought his name is "Jinnai" til I went to check. SHOEI, FREAKIN' SHOEI, IT'S A GREAT NAME, JUST CALL HIM BY THAT, DON'T "PRINCE! PRINCE! PRINCE!" ME!

Now for some extra perverted stuff. Her breasts. POOR PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE BIG BREASTS, POOR PEOPLE SUFFER FROM LACK OF NUTRITION AND THUS ARE USUALLY REALLY THIN, BREASTS ARE MADE UP OF *FATS* WHICH IS A KIND OF NUTRITION. MIO, UNLESS YOU ARE FREAKIN' *PREGNANT* WHICH YOU OBVIOUSLY AREN'T, YOU HAVE NO REASON TO HAVE SUCH BIG BREASTS.

Enjoyment -
It's smut, ecchi, or even HENTAI whatever you put it, which female creature won't enjoy smut? The part I enjoyed the most?

(SPOILER)When Jinnai mistook Hina for Mio and started making love to him idiotically. SUCKER!(SPOILER)

But even with the sexy scenes as distraction, I can't seem to get the unhappiness with the characters and story out of my head so I was obviously bothered and can't enjoy them much.

Overall -
Read for the SEXY SCENES~~~

cheers.
