Natsume Yuujinchou review
Natsume Yuujinchou - the poor man's Mushishi.

On a paper, the concept looks good. Youkai are great source of inspiration for a story - their variations can lend to a distinct feel and even their most basic form appeal as something unusual to a western reader. Sadly, it's something you can keep milking only for so long if you don't improve the staleness of the story itself. Yes, the main weakness of Natsume Yuujinchou is that it's going on for way too damn long without much change of variety. Yes, it is episodical, but unlike the forementioned Mushishi that is still highly creative with it's variations of the self-contained stories and which produces a sense of emergency and danger for the characters, Natsume is just... too mild. The only thing that changes is the design of youkai, otherwise most of the arcs are "Hey it's me ya boi youkai of the week, I will now bother you for a while in relation to your grandma until we come to agreement". I hardly ever felt any of the characters were in a real danger as the series seems to love it's status quo. Thanks to the protagonist being anchored in one place instead of travelling around, it is harder for the small arcs to end more drastically for the secondary characters as that would change the setting around the protagonist noticeably, which is something this manga is not exactly willing to do.

The plot is repetitive to a point that I would even call it boring. And as a larger problem, it feels like it's just backtracking a non-existent prequel of the past adventures. I would rather read a manga about Reiko and the start of all those stories than the clean-up after them. Most of the cast is forgettable and the only reason the protagonist and the cat aren't is because of the count of their appearance, but they too don't offer much of engaging character traits. The art is not bad for a shoujo and as mentioned I like the youkai designs which are the best part of this manga.

If you want an episodical work with youkai central to the plot, go watch/read Gegege no Kitaro instead. It's actually more fun and more creative.

Metallica Metalluca review
Metallica Metalluca (or as I like to call it "The Thing That Should Not Be") is a shounen manga by amateur mangaka Teruaki Mizuno. It was the mangaka's first published work that he released in 2010. Usually, the debut work of an artist is their most important, since it can be very hard to Escape from a work if it turns out to be Some Kind of Monster. It can leave you Broken, Beat and Scarred both mentally and critically. Sadly, this is exactly what happened to Teruaki's debut manga, which ended up being like Cyanide to his career.

Now I'm not one to jump on a Hate Train when a work is largely disliked by the people who read it, but I hated this manga so much that I had to give it 2x4 ratings. What truly was the Fuel to me giving this manga No Remorse was that this, in my opinion, was a pathetic attempt to make a quick buck with a lousy shounen. Now with fairness And Justice To All, he might have just wanted to create something he really wanted, but The Struggle Within me really does not let me believe it. Shounen is a very easy genre to do, but one that's very hard to do well. It has a very clear template to follow but you can't only follow that template or else it'll become One of many uninspired shounen out there. Sadly, that's exactly what happened to this manga.

Alas, nothing in this manga could have been a Cure for lackluster characters, a redundant plot and an extremely Frantic ending. The Small Hours I wasted on reading this manga could have been used to Seek & Destroy my daily chores.

I really do think that if he would have put in a little more effort to this it could have turned out to be something other than me Wasting My Hate. I'd be lying if I said the idea of him having Death Magnetic abilities didn't seem interesting to me. After all, talent (or a lack of it) isn't Hardwired into our minds. But until The Day That Never Comes when he will pull together and make something decent, The Memory Remains of the Bad Seed that is Metallica Metalluca.

AKI-SORA review
**It might contain some spoilers so beware**

Story (4/10):

It's about a kid who loves his older sister to the point where they enter a forbidden relationship with her, but for some reasons, there are other girls who almost use him for his penis. Which totally feels out of place when it comes to the manga.

Art (6/10):

It's an old-style art from 2008. It's neither good nor bad. It's decent.

Characters (6/10):

Sora's character is the classic boy who always gets played with, but aside from that he's really good at helping others and is quite caring. Aki is has that older sister/motherly care aura around her when it comes to Sora, but in school, she is the usual top student who's good at everything. As for the twin sister Nami, I didn't really like her. She wants things but doesn't try to get them and does unnecessary things that won't benefit her from achieving her dreams. Overall, the cast feels like the usual, the only character I liked in the manga is Runa, because of her personality.

Enjoyment (4/10):

I would say that I enjoyed the first 20 chapters because it felt like a guilty pleasure, but by the end, I didn't really enjoy it because the point where it ended felt out of place and there should've been more to it. It left a bad after taste after finishing it.

Overall (5/10):

It was really enjoyable at first, but by the end, I knew that the decision made was for the best, but I still felt like the ending needed a little more context than what it did.
I wouldn't recommend it to anybody unless they are into incest/love-between-siblings/ecchi then that would be a good recommendation for them.

Burn the Witch review
Tite Kubo's brand new work after his mega-hit series — Bleach, is quite a story.

[Story 7/10]

After reading the One-Shot, I didn't have much hope about the story as I didn't understand most of it. While I had mixed feelings, I still went ahead and gave it a try. And guess what? It was better. While these 4 chapters are like a short arc of a manga, it still is enjoyable. There are dragons, witches, Kidos/spells, and Pipes too (which Kubo refers to as something witches blow). Hilarious.

One may not find it interesting as first, but after reading it all, they'll surely likely to read more of it as the story takes an interesting turn.

[Art 8/10]

A common interpretation of Kubo's artwork is the lack of backgrounds as seen in his previous work, Bleach. But in this manga, there are a lot of them, which I personally believe to be interesting for the story. The character designs are similar to Bleach Characters but most of them are Original.

[Character 7/10]

The main characters — Noel, Ninny, and Balgo are an interesting bunch of folks. The story so far basically revolves around them as each of them have their own set of powers. On the other hand, a few other notable characters have been shown but so far, they haven't made any impactful presence in this season 1. I believe we'll get to see more of them in Season 2 if there is a proper serialization and not another mini-arc.

[Enjoyment 6/10]

The reason I gave it 6, is mainly because this is a short manga. There is scope for many improvements and a great story ahead. One might enjoy this arc but will surely crave for more in the end. The main thing I found enjoyable was that it was set in London.

[Overall 7/10]

The overall deserves to be 7 points as Kubo has brought out a very interesting story regarding witches and dragons. Everyone has their own potential and if handled properly, this can become a new mega-hit series. What makes me say this is the fact that there are new character designs and so many revelations can be done.

If you want to try this story but are not sure, then I suggest you please do give it a try. I'm not sure if you'll enjoy it but I do can say that you'll like it a lot. Oh, and of course, please do read the One-Shot before starting this as the story initially seems to continue after it ends.

Magetsukan Kitan review
tl;dr: A manga that’s mostly a gag manga with a good amount of serious moments, but that don’t really carry forward into an actual plot.

This is mostly a gag manga in that it’s focused pretty much entirely on comedy, without any sort of overarching plot. It’s generally a bunch of small episodes having to do with random problems the monsters of Kodaira face, with the occasional flashback providing background on the monsters. Now despite there being a gag manga, there’s a surprising amount of serious aspects. The thing though, is that because there isn’t really any overarching plot, while these are interesting enough on their own, they never really amount to something more substantial and hence don't have any sort of impact, thus they don’t feel like they have much value. For example, it goes through the background of pretty much everyone, but with most it's just a flashback that doesn’t affect anything at all, and for the others where it does have an impact on the current point in the story, it’s usually just for that chapter and never brought up again. There isn’t any depth to the story or characters. They’re completely flat and don’t go anywhere beyond where they started at the beginning of the manga. They’re not bad characters, but without more to them they feel kind of boring. Regarding the relationship between the main characters, that’s the closest thing to an overarching plot thread that develops, but it’s not really built that well. Its something that’s being pushed from the beginning to the end, but it doesn’t really develop, it just stays in the same state for the vast majority of the manga until the end where it suddenly works out. That’s better than it not working out I suppose, but it isn’t all that great either. As for the comedy itself, it was decent enough, not really funny, but not bad, although a bit repetitive. The art was pretty weak even though the setting and subject matter were interesting visually.
