Before anyone reads this manga, you should know that the "Seinen" and "drama" category for this manga really means what it means: There is some very disturbing issues in this manga that might even make older guys flinch. Do NOT READ IF YOU DISLIKE LOLI. (and i mean even disliking it a little bit. Like, when i read this, i was feeling weird and im usually ok with Loli but, this isnt loli-comedy, this is...more disturbing).

Story: one of the reasons the story is decent is because of it's structure: at the start of the manga, the story is told directly by the main character (ikeuchi) in first person, as he describes the situation, and what disturbing event took place. This later shifts to become like reading a normal manga (just viewing what is happening), but shifts back and forth for a while in this manner.

The actual content of the story involves a lot more than the synopsis describes: Betrayal, Tragedy (in ikeuchi's view), despair, forgiveness, and what it means to be a family. Not just Loli (although it is one issue used, it should not be primarily focused on).

Art: The artwork for this manga is decently drawn, and all the characters look pretty cute too (like in any romance manga). If you prefer manga will decent looking characters, this manga will do.

Character: Like was mentioned before, the main character actually tells us his story from the beginning, meaning you get to see and feel what the main character feels all that more. As the story progresses, more and more is shown about ikeuchi and the other characters (each of their individual stories are told one time or another). And, they are not exactly what you may expect them to be: Minami is not the innocent little sister, kanda is not the reliable and responsibly best friend, and ikeuchi does not truly know what it means to be in a family.

Enjoyment: To be honest, in order to actually enjoy this manga, you have to suffer a little bit from it first. (there is shock content that involves loli, and you also have to read for a while in first person, most of which is about the main character's anguish and despairing situation). However, my final impression of this manga's enjoyment factor was that it was decent and unique: in the end, the characters are able to find peace with themselves.

Overall: This is a decent manga to read, it is short and it can make a huge "impact" on you. It is a good break from normal lovey-dovey romance genre manga and truly has shocking drama in it. However, this manga should not be read if you dont like having your emotions running loose or if you dont like Loli. Otherwise it is a good read.

There are topics you simply can not write about if you have bad or barely average storytelling skills. Peadophilia is one of them.

I honestly don't think (or rather: I try to not think) that author had bad intentions or tried to show paedophilia as a controversial yet positive casus. It is definitely not a level of those disgusting lolicon hentais, it didn't piss me off so much as the trope of adult women trapped in bodies of girls for the sake of fetishist target. It is just written so badly it not only hurts but spreads very, very dangerous subtexts.

Author tried to portret a broken family, broken to the point where everyone hurts everyone due to plain egoism and lack of communication. It is clearly seen that he made quite of research, especially for a process of bonding between paedophile and their victim. The problem lies in his unability of showing it all realistically, with a clear narrative and intentions. Let's take Nabokov's Lolita as an example - it is a storry written from predator's perspective and yet the reader has an idea what is bad and how and why it is bad. From the beggining till the end we are aware we are inspecting perspective of a wicked, disgusting person. We not only feel it but understand it thanks to the author.

Mon Seul's author, however, tries to remain neutral and switches the point of view from the predator, to the victim and (mainly) to the victim's guardian. And he is not sincere with his intentions. Thanks to it we can see how older brother abuses, controls and feels jealous for younger sister who he caught being raped. We see the younger sister (10yo) initiating romantic relationship with adult friend of family and finding herself mature enough for it. Finally, we see the predator finding himself a victim of wicked family actions. It all would work if any of those narratives was the only one AND written wisely. Yes, horribly egoistic and control-freaky brother could feel betrayed by his remaining family member being dragged away - even if it's a child abused by a paedophile. Yes, kids often fall for paedophilies looking for a bond that could replace non-exisitng or problematic ones - and they can get attached to the predator. Finally, yes, peadophiles can think of themselves as innocent and even push the responsibility on their victims. But none of this point of views is correct or healthy and they are connected with psychical disfunctions. It should be precisely shown.

Author treated paedophilia as a casual family drama. And it would somehow - still badly but not as bad - if the girl was older, 13-15 years old. Still too young to get involved into relationship with 20+ guy but old enough for this plot to work the way author wanted. Without it, it's simply very wrong and very toxic and I'm very not happy I stumbled on it thanks to 2019 Manga Reading Challenge.

Ah, also the art style plainly sucks. Gave 3 points 'cause it was quite funny to see what the author could do with feet.

A great manga with well-think story. Its complex plot and drama makes it a "hard" work. Despite characters, they are complete assholes, the one more mature is Minami, by disgrace; but that's the point. Drama, suspense, psychological, tragedy, family issues, readable… A non-comedy Lolicon.
Its story is deep and I consider it as excellent, very strong for anyone. Why do you react if found your little sister (child) having sex with your "best friend"? This manga have a possible scenario where nobody can does anything and treat to live with that, but time cannot returns, you can not able do something anymore; and your actions in this state may make a catastrophe. Is sad and you can get some of grief and confusion over reading. One more time, is very strong. Actually, you can relay on no one, even family would betray you.
Not knowing about difference between "good" and "bad" you can't do anything.
I recommend you miss the omake, just a lost for good and strong ending. Even I didn't understand nothing of this or recognized its characters. Maybe the first extra is considered a continuation of end as well, making it more deep, and frankly realistic.
I think that characters are most like western culture, where nobody says and/or demand important things [like this] 'cause people [possible] reaction, trying to keep the family even knowing that is impossible, getting out perpetrator and don't accuse yourself (as a stupid blind), where always blame is anyone but you. I really detests this kind of people, always lying and "omit" things for sake «justice, rightness and moral», despite [and "for keep"] stability. All lies!
Lust /fleshly "weakness" and loneliness (and maybe 'friendship'), may justify each other? I think nobody can [nor should] judge no one, though…

"Having friends you can believe in . . .
Having a family to protect . . .
Even if unfortunate events happen, you should be able to be happy . . .

. . . Is what I thought." - Ikeda Ikeuchi

An amazing manga that will leave you speechless, Mon Seul deals with a controversial subject in a very realistic manner. Rarely do you see a story like this, where it starts off so heartwarming and simple, but then suddenly shifts to being dark and tragic. It is always soul-shaking to see a man's principles get shattered right before his very eyes, where those he trusts most are not who they seem to be.

Ikeda Ikeuchi is a college student. His parents divorced a long time ago, leaving his father to take care of him and Ikeuchi's little sister, Minami. One day, Ikeda found a note from his guardian indicating that he had left, but it was not a big change, as his father was not around much due to work anyway. After he thought about quitting school and working instead to support himself and Minami, Ikeuchi's best friend, Kanda, who quit himself and has a job, advised against the former's intent and said he could be the bank Ikeda could rely on had the need arised. In time, Kanda seems to know so much about Minami, unlike her brother, by remembering her birthday and buying her a present she likes. Ikeda thanks Kanda for helping him out, but the latter acts strangely. The protagonist gets a job at a hotel during the break which requires him stay away for a while; he asks his friend to take care of Minami, but Kanda rudely refuses. However, after seeing Ikeda looking sad, Kanda agrees. Later, in a phone call, Ikeuchi's little sister inquires her brother of his return date. Thinking that Minami is waiting for him, Ikeda pushes himself to return earlier than expected. Since it is nighttime, he decides not to call first. As Ikeuchi opens the front door, he calls out to Minami. Behind her closed bedroom door, she asks if it is her onii-chan in a frightened voice. He answers affirmatively as he goes in her room, causing Ikeuchi's sister to yell hard, "No~!!!!" What he sees there turns his world upside-down . . .

"I really thought he was a great guy . . .
Oh, god . . .

Please kill Kanda for me." - Ikeda Ikeuchi

Not only is the story great, but the way it is told as well. The main character narrates in past tense, sometimes hinting of what will take place soon, in a cold tone, differing from his normally-nice self. Another aspect I liked is the black panels that are present between seemingly-happy moments, functioning as more indications to the inevitable outcome. Furthermore, the art may not look very appealing at first, however, it soon seems so fitting, it feels like it was meant for this manga.

The main characters are portrayed brilliantly, with personalities fitting their actions and reactions alike, despite the lack of supporting ones. Ikeda Ikeuchi is a gentle man destined to be faced with an extremely difficult situation. Minami is the little sister who is often left alone, first by her dad then her onii-chan, mainly due to work, causing her to find comfort elsewhere. Kanda is the long-time friend who is reliable, but cannot control his feelings.

In conclusion, I definitely recommend that you give this one a read. It is, without a doubt, a spectacular story. Despite the slight humour in the beginning, it will touch you down deeply, and test your principles. If you are tired from all the silly comedy a lot of manga/anime contain, you will appreciate Mon Seul. However you may feel about the issue presented, you will find a character that supports your position, also answering the question commonly left out: What is next?

Do you have a friend that you trust more than anyone else?

. . . So did Ikeda.

When I read the synopsis, I immediately knew what the story was about. How it was going to go about it... was the reason why I read it.

I've used "one step in the mud after another" to describe an anti-feel good manga before

. But this time I think I'll go with 'sky diving with an elephant on top'.

Lolicon has always been a worry. Some anime/mangas distract you with comedy, fan-service, or incest -kissxsis-. Some even try to raise an ethical point.

But Mon Seul sets up the situation, and goes from there. It doesn't try to convince you of anything. It just shows you what probably will happen, when it happens. I guess one could respect that. The logic in the characters+story seem sound from where I'm standing, but I know most won't agree.

As most people over at mangafox.com have expressed, this definitely isn't a manga to make you feel all fuzzy inside. Raging emotions, inner conflict, murderous intent, maybe a sick feeling inside... I think it's safe to say THAT is what you'll be getting by reading this manga.

Psychological/ethical, tragedy/drama, lolicon and family issues. How could I write a positive review about this? I guess if the point of the manga was to create unpleasant feelings and ethical debates on lolicon then... well done. It's perfect. And unpleasantly realistic, as many won't agree.

I won't say I regret reading this. If there was anything I liked about this manga, it'd be that I have respect for a mangaka to do this kind of story - and how it refuses to be solved.
I don't dislike it because I think it could be better. In fact, I don't know how it can be better. Can it have a satisfying AND realistic factor when it comes to a story like this. You could have a lolicon manga that makes you fuzzy inside. But that's not realistic.
The only thing I dislike about this manga is that it can't be enjoyed. But I guess that can't be helped. Be it my own fault, or the ethical issues it deals with.

_ >_>' and don't click 'un-helpful' because i'm following the guideline "don't write spoilers".
