Splashyyy's five-sentence-reviews! This time: Combat Continent
Mediocre, generic story of a boy that trains himself to protect the ones he holds dear. The best thing about this chinese Manhua is the art, too bad the characters seem rather shallow and generic, a perfect fit for the story though. Combat Contient is not bad, but it isn't great either. I read this on and off during the times I find nothing better to read. I highly don't know why this series had such a high rating, but I feel like reading the Novels is most likely the better choice if you want to engage in this story. |

*SPOILER WARNING*
This is an amazing Manga and I loved it so when I couldn't wait I decided to start reading the LN. The LN stated much better details and it wasn't made for young 13 year olds so it made more sense. Like when that scorpion interpreted Grandmaster and Erlong in the LN they were about to have sex which explained why Erlong was so pissed but in the Manga I was lost because all they did was sit next to each other. It made no sense that Erlong would be pissed cuz that was going nowhere anyway Another point is the chapter where Tang San confessed to Xiao Wunand that whole spring love thing. There was nothing wrong with that even if they changed small details like the classroom setting but what pissed me off is that it skipped to the grandpa coming when Tang Beat Tai long. In the LN Tang beat Tai long then the dad came and Tang beat a rank 50 and then the grandpa came and all that stuff happened. In the LN it showcased Tang San badass by showing him beat a rank 50 and there was a little joke about how the father would come if the son lost, but in the manga it just skipped to the grandpa and left out everything else Like I said the Manga is amazing, funny, and cool but after reading the LN I suggest that everyone who reads the manga read the LN because the Manga is rushed and changes as well as leaves out detail plus the LN is the original version. Think of it like this the book is always more detailed you just have to imagine all scenes and the movie is always rushed in comparison but gives you the scenes so u don't have to imagine it. Read bothe the LN and the Manga and you fall in love with this series *(I apologize for any errors in spelling I am doing this from my iPad and the onscreen keyboard and auto correct is killing me) |

Story - 8
The story starts off extremely interesting. One of the best reads I have had in years, but as the chapters went on it went a little downhill. But it wasn't much downhill, more like from a 10 to a 7, so it was still a good read through the whole story (so far) Characters - 9 All the 7 main characters have depth and feel like they are each an individual instead of robots that revolve around the mc. But that doesn't only apply to the main characters, they also make the other characters feel the same way, without the story having too slow pacing. My favorite character is the mc, while that isn't very original I know, but I think it's deserving. Mc is op, but not in raw strength as the focus. His op-ness lies in his talent and intelligence. The other thing I like about the mc is that here isn't your typical shonen pussy boy. He is gonna kill if he needs to, and doesn't think much of it, which feels good compared to your average "killing is wrong" mc. Art - 10 It is hard for people to judge art, since a lot of people are either used to bad art or good art. Personally i found the art really well drawn, not much needs to be said here. Other I thing i like about the story is that it is more about outsmarting your opponent than having raw strength. A good example of this would be Naruto part 1. At least this goes for some characters in the story. Some people have powers like they were a super saiyan, while others fight like they were kakashi from Naruto. But even so, there is a shared ranking system shared amongst everyone. I do love ranking systems not gonna lie |

Well first off, I LOVE THIS MANGA!!! Some reasons why- the story is good. It's not super action themed or deep or dark and stuff so it feels like happy-ish. The art is awesome! It's isn't like normal manga so it takes a bit of getting used to to but it's good overall. Plus it COLORED, SO GREAT!! The charaters are all op. I LOVE that. Especially the main one. All the charaters are different from each other and are the basic generic but I really like that. It show some development I guess...AND SUPER DUPER EXTRA INPORTANT DETAIL IS THAT IT UPDATES DAILY!!! ONE
OR MORE OMG.
*note if reading don't stop at the first chapter since it's basically just a prologue |

I read 68 chapters in two days. If I could read Chinese I would go find the original. If you look at my profile you can see that I've watched a lot of anime and read a lot of manga/manhwa. I'm a huge fan of MC's that seem to have a lot of natural abilities or skill and most of the time i'm excited with them when they seem to have the odds stacked in their favor, but I can totally understand why people dislike it. The MC in this story is, for all intents and purposes, overpowered and very talented. On the other hand
he is so talented because he has been reborn and he retained his memories so he had a sort of head start. So its not like the MC is overpowered just because he's the main character, there's a reason and for me it's good enough. I can't recommend this enough. Go find it and read it!

Currently I'm up to chapter 117 but i noticed that there was a Combat Continent 2 or Soul Land 2 or whatever so i did my research and found out that the story and characters don't seem to be related to CC1, but it is the same world. It's suppose to be a spinoff/sequel and it takes place after 10,000 years. I'm kind of disappointed that CC1 characters aren't in there. Fortunately both CC1 and CC2 are still ongoing. I know that CC2 updates more but right now CC1 has more chapters. I kind of don't like the fact that in the beginning of CC1
it didn't tell the readers when there was a time skip so that kind of confused me. I'm not going to read the novel btw.
I'm going to read CC2 after I finish CC1 because it has better and vibrant/more modern looking art style than CC1 but hopefully the author includes the MAIN/OLD SHREK'S SEVEN MONSTERS into CC2 because.. yeah. Also I don't like the fact that many people think that there are incest in this manga, the mc and the bunny girl are NOT SIBLINGS. They just made a promise that they're sibs so whatever. The only incest that is going on is that master philosopher dude and his lover cuz their cousins. I hope you people read this and won't be confused. P.S I PUT 9 FOR OVERALL SCORE BECAUSE THE MANGA SO FAR DIDN'T FILL UP THE PLOT HOLES. I'LL CHANGE IT WHEN THE MANGA FINISHES.. |

Disappointing, felt like it could be better. Perfect characters in a JRPG world, wouldn't be surprised to find out this was made to sell a plot for a JRPG.
The first chapter makes it seem like it's going to be some inspiring epic, but after the first few chapters it feels more like the literal story from a JRPG. Seriously, with levels and item gathering, skills and such, it'd be better if they used that as a humor source like manga's that are based on games or parody them, instead it's just kinda there. The main character starts out really interesting, but never really gets deeper, he's perfect and just keeps getting stronger and better, that's it. The side characters are either perfect with one single flaw, or just kinda there. There's the greedy guy, the selfish girl, the fool, the fat one, the aggressive girl, the intelectual, etc etc etc. The plot is.... like a JRPG, they fight, level up, grind and train, get new items/skills, enter area with more difficulty. Thin comedy, drama, and romantic subplot slightly present throughout. The art is GREAT! I don't know why so much effort was put into the artwork when it could be spent on plot and story, really every page is full color and graphic effects. I honestly don't understand the high rating, it averages out as mediocre at best, disappointment at worse. Is it because there are soo few decent webcomics/manga in general coming out of China? Maybe that country has different standards, oh the jokes that could be made about that theory! |

What started as a Chinese text was ported to the Korean manwha format and finally graced our screens in English, so why miss out?! Exactly, what started off as a peculiar reincarnation story, slowly transformed into a battle heavy sojourn that felt like one extended stream of leveling up and unraveling abilities.
In my personal opinion, it was quite enjoyable. A concoction of romance and action with hints of comedy, a deep rapport is quickly built between character dynamics as well as the readers. Initially, I was startled and, to be perfectly honest, intimidated by the amount of depth of the spirit chart that labelled the levels of the practitioners, however it quickly became clear that the reader is reacquainted with each person’s levels almost every chapter. To date there are no obvious omissions of time that present the story to be fractured, allowing for greater enjoyment and immersion. The art is truly breathtaking and the innovation on an already saturated genre of manwha/manga brings with it a sense of exhilaration as the story relies on expedience and tension to launch the reader into a page-turning piece of fiction. For an amazing story with great characters and even better art, look no further than...Douluo Dalu. |

So i was looking to find a random manga/light novel to read, for something to do after a while looking i found douluo dalu (a manhwa) . Then after looking at the summary (which looked to be pretty interesting) I started to read it.
Well throughout my reading i started to notice things. These thing being when characters would show completely irrational behavior / actions that didn't make sense for why the characters would do that in the situation (not going to tell you what these are to avoid spoilers). However if you still want to know feel free to ask me. There is also the case of there being several plot holes. If not for these i would think of giving it a 10. Just adding this cause some people do hate this being the main character being op. well just going to say that he does lose several times on multiple occasions throughout the manhwa. So think of it a OP Character building up his power. Well anyways if you think you can stand enjoying this manhwa with these few flaws its all green lights i guess. However I still suggest that you read the light novel so that you get the full feel of this great read. Also if you want to know where this manhwa is up to its around chapter 147 in English sub from when i wrote this review. |
