Agravity Boys review
If you're going into this manga expecting some kind of epic and intense space-exploration adventure with the fate of humanity on the line, you'd only be half-correct. This isn't a story meant to be taken too seriously, although that could change overtime (in the same vein as how One Punch-Man changed)
If you go into this manga looking for a good laugh, then you're in the right place. Story - 7 The plot is nothing groundbreaking, but it's interesting enough to pull you in and keep you intrigued, so long as you don't take the wacky events too seriously. It's a science fiction, and a comedy. The two genres that are probably the least meant to be taken seriously of all. Some stuff isn't going to make much sense, and some scenarios are going to seem very convenient, but the whole point is for the gags and the jokes. How the characters respond to these over-the-top and ridiculous situations is where the gold lies in this series. Art - 8 The characters each have unique designs, and the facial expressions help pull off the humor almost perfectly. I have no qualms with the art at all. And when the manga wants to, it shows off the scenery and environments beautifully. Character - 9 Despite being only 7 chapters long at the time of writing this, I'd say the characters is one of this series strong points so far. They're very well done. Each one has their own unique traits and personalities introduced right away, and their dynamics are super enjoyable. Character interactions and humor is where I believe this series hits the nail on the head. Enjoyment - 10 The humor in this is fantastic, at least in my opinion. I know that humor is very subjective, so this could either make or break the series for you. I get some hints of Grand Blue while reading this, and maybe even a bit of Prison School vibes. If you like either of those two manga and their style of comedy, then I highly recommend reading Agravity Boys. Overall - 8 Don't go into this manga taking it too seriously, because it sure as hell doesn't take itself seriously. The humor will either land for you, or it won't. It just happens to land really well for me. The characters are enjoyable and I definitely recommend at least checking this manga out if you have the spare time! |
Agravity Boys review
This manga has an all male, handsome cast and centers around male friendship. The fact that one of the boys looks like a girl is a recurring and **important** theme. There are frequently boy's love/yaoi/ecchi jokes. It is heavy on gag rather than deep storytelling and the characters often act idiotically. Many of the chapters are episodic and character-driven.
These are the most vital things that will determine whether you like this manga - if you are very averse to one of these things you'll probably not like it. On the flip side, if you DO like these things you'll probably love it. Story - 8: Many of the chapters are more episodic, but lately there have been more little stories that span 2 or more chapters. In particular, the last few chapters as of writing this (chapters 10-12) seem to be the start of a longer story. Art - 9 The art is great. The scenery of the planet looks quite nice. Best of all, the characters are very very expressive - there are several memorable expressions that may stick with you. The character themselves each have a distinctive, memorable design. Character - 8: Most of the characters are colorful, energetic and jump out at you, especially the characters that the manga starts with. Only one of the newly introduce characters really stands out, however. I think the biggest problem is the amount of overlap in the personalities of some of the characters, with the exception of Chris and Grislow, but this may change later on. It is easy to want to learn more about these characters, though, which speaks to their distinct designs and interactions with each other. Overall - 9: The first paragraph of this review will be the most important determinant for deciding whether you should start this or will like it. If the elements in that paragraph sound like a good time to you, this manga does a good job at employing those elements, and you'll probably really enjoy your time reading. |
Agravity Boys review
Imagine arriving on a new planet as humanity's last hope, with only four boys left and no female in sight, the future looks grim. However, suddenly a higher being presents them a potion that can convert one of them into a girl. Through careful judgment and observation, they start... arguing who'd be the better girl?!
Agravity Boys focuses on our four astronauts boys as they embark on comedic, wacky, and joy-filled adventures around the galaxy. Finding themselves in humorous situations that'll surprise you while giving plenty of laughs. Story (8) The story is typically condensed down into an episodic format about funny perils the boys have gotten into. At the same time, it still provides an objective and a sense of direction within their explorations. Alongside, making great callbacks in previous chapters. Thus, emphasizing the importance of each chapter and their credibility. Art (9) Adding onto the already funny premise, the art elevates each character's reaction given their situation which provides a clear sense of how these characters are feeling while making it even more amusing. Their planet, Alpha Jumbro, also is depicted well with full panel scenery of their surroundings. Additionally, this aids in world-building, making the planet feel more alive. Character (8) Geralt, Baba, Saga, and Chris characters play off one another to build a dynamic that feels genuine, and at times almost feels like you're apart of their adventures. Also, their whimsical thought process makes each of them evermore unique. Enjoyment (10) The comedic story within each chapter with the scattered jokes has always made me laugh. I occasionally remember scenes from the manga and it makes me smile at how goofy but enjoyable they are. Furthermore, my enjoyment also stems from discussing each chapter with my friends and finding similarities between us and the Agravity boys crew. Overall (9) Agravity Boys is a charming series that I love to see continue in the future. I'd highly recommend this if you're into comedy or just a fun adventure about some loveable idiots. I consistently find myself throughout the 27 chapters published so far that I'm enjoying the entertaining story that the Nakamura, Atsushi has provided to the extent where I'd say it's outstanding! |
Agravity Boys review
I went in blind and didn’t know what to expect when reading Agravity Boys, but it probably would have been nice to know that this is a comedy first and foremost that occasionally tries to masquerade as something more serious.
This is targeted at a younger audience, but the bathroom humor is juvenile to the point of being demeaning and not very funny to an older audience and it seems like some of the jokes (that have at least some potential) are one offs. If the jokes return, then my regards for the series might change some. The art is emotive and used to good effect to hype up moments in the story. The characters are run-of-the-mill troupes that aren’t anything new or special. In short, this is a comedy that didn't make me laugh or smile and I don’t particularly like any of the characters or the execution of the jokes, so this isn’t really doing it for me. |
Agravity Boys review
First off, I would like to say that this is the best manga I have read in awhile. I straight up have not even finished this, but I would like to give it the good ol' MAL 10/10.
Okay, to begin I straight up have laughed my flipping ass off every other chapter. Like what the flip, my guy Nakamura-sen has made me laugh, so flipping hard over the dumbest of things. It's great. I love this manga a lot. Even if I have not finished it. The characters are also very loveable. First off, we have Saga, I love that dude. Then we have Geralt, I love that dude. Then we have Baba, I love that dude. Then we have Chris, who overall is just such a great middle-man(?), honest to God, Chris is just such an enjoyable character, seeing him makes me smile. I love that dude. The story itself is very moving, I feel like our young spunky boys are always getting stuff done. They are very hardworking. God bless them and Nakamura sensei. I legit made a MAL account just to write about young spunky fellas. Thank you and have a good night. |
Agravity Boys review
I'll say this right off the bat here, I love Agravity boys so much. Imagine that all of humanity rests on the shoulders of four dudes. That's Agravity Boys for you.
Story - 7 The story is really enjoyable. When humanity is destroyed the last four people of earth are stranded on a distant planet in charge or saving the human race. The catch is that they are all dudes. While the story may seem serious the story doesn't take itself that seriously. The story becomes even more enjoyable when the cast expands a bit into the series. Art - 8 I absolutely adore Nakamura's art style. The characters are all super unique and and the expressions that Nakamura draws for them only adds to the stories comedy. All the backgrounds are also super unique and add to the overall sci-fi feel of the series. Characters - 9 Every character in this series has so much personality. Along with the amazing character design each character has such a fun personality that adds to the story. The characters work so well with each other making for a fun cast that can always make you smile. Enjoyment - 10 I love this series so much. On my personal list I have it as a 10 because of how much I adore it. I love the comedy from this series so much which is good because its the basis of the story. The comedy is a hit or miss for most people, you either love it or you hate it. Most of the comedy tends to be juvenille but at the same time its so fun and random that you have to love it. The comedy of the series makes the series story go from plot point to plot point to so well because of the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously. Overall I really enjoy this series. Even though I personally give it a 10 thinking from a more critical perspective I think its a 9. While the comedy may be a turn off to some people if you do like that type of comedy you will probably really enjoy this series. |
Agravity Boys review
Agravity honestly started off really strong with an interesting premise of 4 spacemen who were the last humans after the Earth kicked the bucket. It started off interesting by giving us a goal of finding a way to keep humanity going and exploring a whole universe of interesting planets and the possibility of seeing tons of aliens sounded great yet 34 chapters later it's become a monotonous mess of a series with no real identity. The series is constantly using the same few jokes or dragging jokes out for multiple chapters making it simply annoying. For a more gag oriented series it's more interested in
explaining jokes rather than telling them. The characters started interesting but they're all so dull and uninspired from Chris, who looks like a girl (that's the only joke), Baba who's a horny sex addict engineer which could sound interesting if they ever actually did anything with him, Saga their leader, who has no real personality whatsoever other than "being a punk", and Geralt the scientist who is the smartest but more of a goofball than the rest of them. The series just drags on with annoying exposition dumps and pointless over-descriptive dialogue and the tone is all over the place. Honestly if you want a more interesting sci-fi gag series with fu, well-written characters with a really interesting world, just read or watch Gintama instead.
